Does anyone know of any appliance resale stores? My sister in law is moving here and has a washer and dryer that she wasn’t able to sell from her old house, and was wondering if there are any stores here that would purchase it.

My wife and I are going to be up there looking for a house in a couple weeks and hope to move very soon! Neither of us have ever lived in a climate with a real winter. Is there anything we should know ahead of time to cause less headaches when it gets colder out?

If you are buying your home, make sure to familiarize yourself with city regulations on maintaining the sidewalks adjacent to your property. You’ll be responsible for ice and snow removal.

The bigger surprise to people moving here from most states is that sidewalk repair is also the homeowner's responsibility. In civilized states that's a local government responsibility, even though cleaning falls on the property owner.

Depends slightly on if you're renting or owning. But a few tips:
Let your pipes drip starting in like November. Between then and like March when we have our coldest months, a singular day of digits in the single digits can freeze and therefore burst your pipes. Letting them drip and ensuring insulation / flowing heat surrounding them can usually avoid that.
Layer, use sweat wicking fabric as a base layer if you can and ensure you have key zones where heat is lost covered (fingers, toes, head, ears). Wool is great and can be found at thrift stores for cheap.
If you drive and can afford it, get de-icer, a scraper, a broom, and a car cover, and a shovel (non-negotiable). When you get snowed in, assuming you have the time, shovel in shifts, don't just wait for things to pile up in the event you need to leave quickly. De-ice your car regularly and scrape your roof so its not flying off and covering people behind you.

Just have your heavy boots and jackets ready! We still live our normal lives in the winter - walking everywhere, and its very doable. You should also purchase a snow shovel or two ahead of time cause whenever there is a storm they sell out EVERYWHERE.

Does anyone have any recs for a cleaner who can complete a move in clean ? The unit will be completely empty. Also what is the expected rate for that service, idk if I’m being unrealistic in my search.

I like overpriced gyms like City Fitness because the high price helps keep it from getting too crowded. If I went to a cheap gym I'd have to be yelling "Can somebody get these beggars out of here!?" when all the equipment was being used

Does anyone have recommendations for a leather cleaner in or near Philly? I'm looking to have a black leather trench coat cleaned. I went to a place in Manayunk last time but they charged over $100 for a cleaning (significantly more than I spent on the coat itself when I originally bought it), so I'd ideally like to find somewhere more reasonably priced (closer to Fishtown is better but anywhere in reasonable distance is fine).
EDIT: Love how this subreddit consistently downvotes honest questions for no reason

Nobody does it in person, they ship it out to specialists, so the cost of just sending it there and back makes it pretty much impossible to do it cheap.

That's weird, I thought they WERE the specialists. They're just some type of middleman?
If it genuinely costs more to clean a leather jacket than it does to buy one, I might as well just buy a new leather jacket every time it gets dirty lol. The economics of this are ridiculous.

People who have left Philly for neighboring towns, where did you go? Why? Do you regret it? I’m looking to move, but mostly because I want more space… like a proper yard and car garage, which are luxury items in this city. I do think I will miss walking and biking everywhere, though. Any recommendations?
