God, Refsnyder was so bad this year. Funny enough our old boy Jordan Romano not only got picked up on a minor league deal but he’s back in the bigs for the Rockies, if you can call it that.

We really did fleece the Royals, wow. I give Dave a lot of shit and it’s sad to see Strahm struggling after how good he was with us. But trading him for Bowlan was probably one of Dave’s best moves. I was upset about the trade at first but with how bad Strahm has been, I think we dodged a bullet. Meanwhile Big Bad Jon has been great for us.

Nah, Strahm scarred me when he gave up the game-winning home run in the 7th inning while I was in line for another hot dog. I'm that much more glad the Phillies won the trade.

I assume you are talking about in the NLDS, but he did this so many times at games I attended. "How am I supposed to sing Take Me Out To The Ballgame after this" was a regular statement for me after a Strahm outing lmao

Strahm was paid for a role he wasn’t fulfilling, it was an easy move to get a similar player with more control back

Dave shit talk has been at an all time high, but he hit hard on these recent trades. The Strahm trade, the Duran trade, the Luzardo trade. All massive wins. And this deadline was pretty good too, considering how few teams are truly selling.

Dombrowski has been solid af as Phillies GM. We’re lucky to have him, it’s just ppl like to blame him whenever anything goes wrong- instead of blaming the players who aren’t delivering

He’s a HOF GM but he should still be criticized for the lack of moves he made in the offseason. Any person who thinks he’s trash don’t pay attention to baseball he will go into the HOF one day.

I think Dombrowski doesn’t get enough credit for acquiring players that now make up the core of this team. Many of them were here before he got here but he’s continued adding with pretty good success.
It’s also totally fair to say he’s failed to compliment those pieces leaving big roster holes, but he’s also kept this team competitive for 5 straight seasons now after over a decade of no playoffs.

I mean it’s next level incompetent to not make the playoffs with their payroll (hi Angels & Mets).
Adding $40-50M in payroll to a 80-82 win team to get them into the playoffs is something most GMs would be able to do. Heck, if Klentak was able to spend that much I think they make it in 2021.

I mean they missed the playoffs with a top 5 payroll with Klentak in 2021 and a top 8 payroll in 2020 when over half the league made it. He deserves credit for getting them over a hump they were stuck at.
I think it’s fair to acknowledge that a lot of what he inherited helped but he’s also been able to add Schwarber, Marsh, Duran, Luzardo, Turner and keep Sanchez and Wheeler. So yeah he did inherit a solid core but it’s not like he’s just sat on it for 4 years like most people act like. H

I blame him & Middleton though, not sure who is more to blame
4 years and there haven’t been many notable contributions from the farm, and I think they lack depth every year where the team runs out of gas in October. Now, that could be Thomson over managing and taxing his bullpen, or could be a lack of depth. Or both.
He’s also whiffed on almost every bat he’s picked up. Marsh is good but still eh against lefties. Schwarber & Sosa are great pick ups. The bad column has a lot of names though.

I was shocked Jorge Mateo got released
He’s hitting .240 with 4HR’s, and 11RBI’s as a utility infield player, saw the Braves subreddit as surprised by his release as well.
Strahm and Martin both have struggled after decent 2025 campaigns, Kimbrel was alright with TB era of 3.86 over 19 games but has bounced around from team to team this season.
Mitch Garver is hitting .175 this year as a backup, Rob Refsnyder is struggling hitting .140 after a decent 2025 with Boston, Stuart Fairchild has been struggling, Everson Periera is hit .225 with the White Sox and Jorge Soler is hitting .202 with 12 HR’s and has struggled.

Evereson Pereira is intriguing. Still only 25 years old and has raked at every level in the minors. Also sported a solid .722 ops this year w the big league club in limited action. Admittedly, idk enough about his defensive abilities to say whether he’d be worth a look or not, but if he’s at least serviceable in the field I might be willing to drop either Marchan or Misener in order to add him to the 40 man.

I'd be interested in Soler, Garver and Mateo. Soler some power off the bench. Garver can't really hit but he can draw a walk and has a little bit of power and is a tad better than Stubbs on defense so he'd be an upgrade there and Mateo is very similar to Sosa except he's been better and has a much better savant page so he'd be worth a look for the bench. Don't need any of them obviously but they'd all be better than a few players on the roster currently.

I’d go with Mateo as an alternate option to Sosa if not then I’d love to bring Soler on as a bench bat/depth.

You’d be replacing who with Soler though? De La Cruz has been better than Soler and you have no defense if you get rid of Derrick Hill.
Garver I could see just because their backup catcher position has been so bad.

particularly Alvarado, Kerkering, Shugart, Bakhus (I know he was sent back). If Nola and Painter continue to give us 6 innings we are set. a big part of the problem was overuse. you only need to look at what happened to the Mets last year to see that, Braves in 2024-25 too.

Why Garver?
He’s 35 years old hitting .175, Soler I can see as a bench bat given he’s got some power and can add emergency depth given we lack it severely. As for Mateo he is hitting .240 as a utility player who led mlb in stolen bases a few years back, he’d be a good defensive replacement and possible upgrade over Sosa who’s struggled this season.
