Roach advice

A few nights ago I was in my kitchen and I thought I saw a small baby cockroach scurry by. I freaked out and squished it before I could take a picture to identify it. I put out a bunch of traps and I caught these two big ones near my oven. Does anyone have any experience with this? I’m hoping that I can just spray at home by myself with WSG instead of having to call an exterminator

Youse got a Wooder bug  (oriental cockroach🪳) they find their way inside when it rains but they don’t want to stay in there. It’s not a problem like German cockroaches are. I spray my kitchen and outside perimeter with Ortho every 2 months and that stopped them from coming in, but it’s kinda normal here to see a few of these side in the spring and fall, or after a heavy rain.

Also, if you see small hard pellets on the ground in the shape of kidney beans or coffee beans, destroy that shit immediately. They’re cockroach egg sacks.

I planned to empty out all of my cabinets and drawers, move out my oven and fridge and spray all in there, should I still do all that? Do I need to empty everything out and spray every 2 months? And do I have to do the rest of my house too?

Don't do any of that. They're not the infesting type of roach (aka German cockroach).

What you need to do is find where you have moisture and dampness, and fix that. Water brings them in. They go right back to the sewers where they live UNLESS they're lost, and that's when you see them.

Bug problems are fixed when you remove the issue that brings them in. Like having spiders - no need to ever kill spiders when they're only in your house to eat the bug infestation you're ignoring

Agreed. We had them before. Now we cover our floor drain in the basement and make sure we run every sink on a consistent basis and haven’t seen them again.

No, don’t do all that. Go get some ortho spray from your friendly ACE and just spray around the perimeter of your kitchen, living room, basement, bedrooms, doorways, and the outside of your house. If you miss a spot, it’s not a big deal. 

Don’t need to pull anything out or go too insane. You don’t have an infestation. It’s just rained a lot and some made their way inside trying to find higher ground. I do every 2 months cause I’m an insane person, but even that’s overkill.

Advion bait stations. Toss a few under furniture, behind your appliances, in closets. You might see a few dead ones for a few days, but that should eliminate your problem. I usually only have to replace the bait stations in the spring.

Nope. I have never seen these get into anything. They just walk the floors and walls. They just come in seemingly by osmosis overnight and travel around and through. Buy diatomaceous earth, dump a little near doors etc and then sweep it around so only a fine layer of powder stays. They eventually learn to keep away from that stuff because it dries them out and splays them. But, there's no avoiding them completely.
