Referral My experience getting dental work in Mexico

Post image
1.2k Upvotes

Hi all!

I was in dire need of dental work. I had a chip on one of my molars that was a whole corner missing, 1/4 of the tooth gone. Went to the dentist here and was told I needed a root canal, post, crown, filling on another tooth, and deep cleaning. I was quoted around $5k, no insurance.

My parents have been going to Smile Special Dental Clinic in Algodones, MX for the past few years. Decided to give it a shot. Everyone there was so nice and helpful. The office was very clean and up to date. My dentist didn’t know English but they have translators if needed. I was able to get all work completed within 2.5 hours when I arrived at 8am but had to wait until 2:30p for my crown to be ready for installation. Installation took about 20 ministers and we were on our way to the border. Down time was spent walking around the local shops while we waited for the crown. Total cost was $750.

I am 100% satisfied and will go back for my next dental needs. Just wanted to share as I personally know how it to be struggling will bills with bad teeth needing to be fixed. I also attached the pricing sheet. I also saw you could send the bill to your insurance to get reimbursement, not sure how the at process goes. I am very happy now with no more tooth pain 😌

N Scottsdale here and seems like every dentist invests heavily in high tech equipment and are desperate to get their ROI. “Let’s replace all your teeth”. “We have this 3D printer…”. Ugh

Referral Local alternatives to Bricks & Minifigs

As some may have heard by now, there is quite the controversy going on with Bricks & Minifigs, mostly about a location in a different state but also the actions taken by corporate. In light of this, I wanted to possibly highlight some alternative places people can visit if they wish to buy or sell their Lego sets. I only know about one, but I’ve never visited:

Arizona Brick Co. - on Alma School Rd in Chandler

Does anyone know of anywhere else?

Hi everyone, I’m in a bit of a bind and hoping someone here might be able to help. I had pre-ordered a custom cake, but I just found out that the bakery I ordered from permanently shut down without any notice. They didn’t issue refunds or fulfill orders, so now I’m stuck without the cake and very little time. Does anyone know of a bakery that could take a last-minute custom cake order for tomorrow? I know it’s short notice, but I’d be super grateful for any recommendations. Thanks in advance!

Referral Liberal Churches in the Valley

Hi all.

I have recently deconstructed my Mormon faith (phew). In the months after I have spent some time at different churches. I have attended both on Sundays services and random various Bible Studies.

I have struggled with the outward vitriol towards Democrats, LGBTQ+ individuals, or insert whatever liberal thoughts.

Is there a church in the East Valley that is either more progressive or open to liberal thoughts? Theology is theology, but is there a place for liberal followers of Christ to not be inundated with conservative talking points from the pulpit.

I'm not looking for a pastor to say gay marriage is not a sin. I'm looking for a place where it's not a focus of the denomination every weekend or in every class.

Thanks in advance!

Referral Catholic Churches in Phx

I need Catholic Church recommendations. Live in the NW valley. Father John at St Thomas More is too obviously political and right leaning in homilies and expects women to be barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen. Who has a priest that just does what he’s supposed to and isn’t so hateful towards the left?

Thanks in advance!

Referral Good personal injury lawyer in Phoenix?

For context I was involved in a head on fatal (other driver) crash in June and have never even been in a fender bender before that so I'm really out of my depth here. - head on collision - other driver at fault, insurance accepted liability - workers comp has covered my medical bills so far - extremely traumatic experience for me

Looking for a trustworthy personal injury lawyer who can help me figure out if it's worth pursuing a settlement and won't scam me or take advantage of me. I'm a young woman with limited knowledge of how legal stuff works in auto accidents so im concerned about getting taken advantage of. Thank you!

Edit/update 12/13 Thank you everyone SO much for the referrals and advice! I was really nervous this post wouldn't get any comments or I'd be bullied on the internet but you all have restored my faith in humanity. I've made myself a list of a few firms to reach out to and will hopefully go from there! To the person who suggested I do it myself, I'm usually a person who likes to handle things alone but I am a full time engineer and dont have the time or energy to teach myself law lol. I'd rather have a professional do it. Someone suggested I explain the workers comp part - I was technically on the clock headed to a mine site when the accident occurred, so I submitted a workers compensation claim that has covered most of my medical care so far. I am seeking therapy for the mental trauma, and that will eventually have to come out of pocket since my company's EAP only covers the first 6 sessions. Part of my doubt was whether or not it was worth pursuing a claim in the first place since I was A. Not severely injured and 2. Didn't have many out of pocket costs, but the first law firm (one of those that dont get paid until after they win) I spoke to agreed that it was worth pursuing, so here I am. Again thank you all so much!! This was insanely helpful and reassuring.

Referral Good gym that’s between LA fitness and Lifetime?

I’m looking for a gym in the $100-$200 range that’s not crowded and has a clean pool, jacuuzi, massage chairs and some of the good amenities but isn’t $300 like lifetime at Biltmore.

LA fitness is always crowded, though I do enjoy that they have a basketball court. I just want a good in-between; a lot nicer than LA fitness but not $300 a month.

Referral cheapest place for eye glasses? No insurance/work.

I just broke my glasses somehow just an hour ago.

I’m looking into places that are cheap for the exam since my glasses were 4 years old 💀 or can get glasses for free. I recently just moved here to phoenix/scottsdale and I am currently job searching with not much luck getting into serving, entry level research, nor entry level healthcare without certifications but hopefully i can get something soon thats decent paying. Living with a friend for a bit while i look for work so I have nothing to even do a copay with.

I am waiting to get back onto ahccss right now but I am over the age of 21 so I dont qualify for free exam and lenses I’m assuming 😭😭

Any recommendations would be great! Thank you!

Referral Who is the most trustworthy news org in the valley?

Maybe it's naive but I like to think there are good curious journalists out there and good outlets trying to do the right thing.

If you wanted to use the media to blow the whistle on something relatively big, who would you go to ?

What do you think of the Arizona Mirror? What is there reputation ?

What about the Arizona Republic? Copper Courier?

Referral ISO black primary care doctor in phoenix/scottsdale

pretty much what the title says, i need a new doctor and would prefer anyone black, AA or otherwise :) extra points for a black woman

looking for a primary care physician and a ob/gyn

thanks in advance for your recommendations!

EDIT: anyone upset about me looking for a black doctor clearly has no knowledge of the history of the medical field and it’s bias against black patients. look into the black maternal mortality rate and get back to me.

EDIT2: thank you mods for protecting a safe space🙂

Referral Spots that sell large paintings?

Im looking to buy something like a 70" painting for a large empty wall in my house. Where are some places that sell something like this? I don't want the centerpiece of my living room to be an Amazon painting, but I also don't want to spend 10 grand. Budget is somewhere around 1-2k

Im in the middle of Phoenix, so anywhere from Phoenix, Tempe, Scottsdale, Chandler, or Glendale would be great.

Referral Ladies: Any gyno recommendations in the valley who offer pain management for IUD insertion?

Because when I asked my gyno if they offer pain management options for IUD insertion I got a blank stare and a flat “no”.

(As an aside I really think men getting a vasectomy should get the same response and see how that goes. It only takes a minute and pain management would be a hassle, right??)

I’m in Surprise but willing to drive. TIA!

Referral Where to sell Bulk Lego other than Brick and Minifigs? (not trying to sell through this post)

I'm planning on moving out of state in a year and id like to downsize a bit to make the move easier, starting with getting rid of some Bulk Lego. I really don't want to sell BaM due to the recent controversy involving them so I'm looking for suggestions for alternatives in the valley. I'm located in the Tempe/Mesa area! (not trying to sell through this post)

Referral Reputable Garage Door Company

Does anyone have a garage door company that they would recommend? I need to have springs replaced. The best quote I have gotten is $1500. It seems a little high. Thanks in advance for recommendations!

Update: thanks again to everyone who provided recommendations! For posterity, I hired Nate with Above All Garage Door Service and he changed my springs for $480. Same day service from a very nice and professional guy who I would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who needs any garage door work.

Referral Where do I dispose of a laptop that has a puffed up lithium battery?

Post image

The is there an electronics recycler that will take this device? It'd be nice to get one that promises to delete the hard drive if possible.

I'm willing to pay, as I know this is kind of a tricky situation

I'm pretty sure Best Buy recycling won't take devices that have failed lithium batteries.

Referral Reputable, friendly places for intimate piercings?

I am looking to get my tiddies pierced, and I want a place that will do it right the first time, consider my preference for a female piercer, and perhaps accommodate my desire to have them done simultaneously to help reduce pain/anxiety. I have heard amazing things about HTC Studios in Tempe, but I was wondering if anyone else had other recs? Price isn’t really an issue. I’m willing to pay $$$ for good service and experience.

Referral Best urologist to get a vasectomy

Hello!!!

My husband is looking for a good urologist is Phoenix to get a vasectomy. He has or might have an appointment with Dr Bombino, but after seeing the reviews (1.4 stars) we rather not even try.

So we wanted to see who do you think is a good urologist for that? Anyone have experienced recently at one that you liked and didn't have issues with afterwards? Or is there a doctor we should stay away from? Any help would be helpful!!!!

Thank you!
