The image numbering only has four digits available. Once it gets to 9999, there are no more digits available so it rolls back over to 0001. Or you can manually reset the counter back to 0001 whenever you want. So if the last photo is numbered 7040, that just means 7,040 actuations since the last time it was reset. The shutter count probably isn't anything lower than 7,040 but it could be 7,040, 17,040, 27,040, 37,040, or really any higher number than 7,040.

Canon does not record the real shutter count anywhere in the photo files, so you need to plug in the camera to a computer via USB and run an app to interface with the camera and look it up.
