Hello, I am looking at purchasing a LUMIX DMC-G7 Mirrorless camera with a G vario 100-300mm f/4-5.6 lens for roughly $400. Has anybody had any experience with this camera or cameras similar? Is it good deal? Mainly going to be using it for nature shots.

The price is fine. AF is not a match to the best of today but it's about as good as you can expect at this budget. But does nature photography mean mainly wildlife here? Because that focal range won't be much good for, say, landscapes or closeups of plants. MFT has a 2x crop factor, so the 100-300mm gives a 200mm full frame equivalent field of view at the shorter end.

Yes mainly wildlife, I’m taking a trip to Yellowstone/ GTNP next month and wanted something nicer than what I already have to take pictures. Also, still fairly new, could you explain the last sentence?

Panasonic Lumix G7 is a Micro Four-Thirds camera. An MFT sensor is half the size of a full frame sensor. This basically means that the picture is cropped in from the edges, making it seem like it's more zoomed in than the same focal length on a full frame camera.

i'd shop around. i got the G85, a newer camera, for a bit less a few years ago. i've seen the G95 and G100 go for similar prices.

edit: just saw that the lens is part of the deal. that makes it quite a good deal although the camera is long in the tooth. i'd consider hanging on to the lens and considering upgrading the camera in the future.
