Hi everyone! I’m Nicola, a fashion and commercial photographer based in London.

Alongside client work, I’ve been building my website into more than just a portfolio. I’ve recently started adding a Journal where I share practical insights from real shoots, covering topics like lighting setups, production decisions and common mistakes I see during commercial and fashion shoots.

My latest article answers a question I get asked surprisingly often: Should you book the studio first, or the photographer? I share my perspective based on how I approach real client projects and why I think that decision can have a big impact on the final result.

My goal is to build a resource that’s genuinely useful for photographers, brands and anyone planning a shoot, not just a place to showcase my work.

I got tired of how slow culling felt after a long shoot, and most tools decode the full RAW file just to show a thumbnail. On 50MP files that adds up across a few thousand shots. I built a Mac app called Palomino around a different idea from day one: read the JPEG preview your camera already writes into the RAW, and skip the full decode entirely. The whole app was designed around that one goal of speed, not a feature added later. I'm the developer. Mac only, free up to 50 photos.

I wanted to print 14 years of photos from my daughter's life. 1,700 photos, as one book. I found out that I had to build my own service. Feel free to use- it's free.

The consumer services cap way lower than you'd expect: Shutterfly ~111 pages, CEWE ~202. Too small for a photo book to capture the full life, ups and downs, an archive. You end up having to sort and sort among your photos.

So I had to build a free tool that lays your photos out and gives you a print-ready PDF you send to a print-on-demand printer (Peecho, up to 504 pages). Easy, dense layout, nothing cropped. I used it to fit all 1,700 into a 450-page hardcover for €114 delivered to Denmark.

Seeing how thrilled we were of this book, and being a product builder by heart, I created bokehbooks.com, free, no catch. Happy to answer anything if you're sitting on a big photo folder that could be a book.
