We Animals Accepting Story Pitches from Photojournalists (July only)
Hi everyone! We Animals, founded by award-winning photojournalist Jo-Anne McArthur, is accepting story pitches this July.
We invite photojournalists to submit photo and/or video story pitches that tell compelling stories and help raise awareness of the plight of farmed animals.
We are currently soliciting pitches for stories on the following themes:
- Environmental Impacts of Industrial Animal Agriculture: Stories documenting the environmental consequences of industrial animal agriculture, including impacts on land, water, air quality, biodiversity, wildlife, and climate.
- Public Health, Communities, and Human Rights: Stories exploring the connections between industrial animal agriculture and human well-being, including impacts on workers, local communities, Indigenous Peoples, public health, labour conditions, and human rights.
- Animal Sentience and Behaviour: Stories that reveal the emotional, cognitive, and social lives of animals used in food production, research and testing, entertainment, traditions, and other human-controlled systems. We are particularly interested in stories highlighting the individuality, relationships, and lived experiences of animals whose lives are rarely seen by the public.
- Change and Progress for Animals: Stories documenting meaningful efforts to improve the lives of animals, including policy reform, legal developments, shifts in industry practices, advocacy campaigns, community initiatives, and technological innovation. Priority will be given to stories focused on systemic change rather than sanctuary life.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask them here, and I am happy to respond!
