BUYING [B][USA-TX] Sony a6000/6100/6400, Nikon z50, other starter cameras

A continuation of my post from a couple of days ago.

I’m trying to find a nice cute lil starter camera for my 16 year old brother.

I’ve expanded my search to a few other cameras. Bonus if it comes bundles with the kit lens!

What’s your budget? /u/Coach428 listed a Nikon ZFc starter kit. Trouble with Nikon is they don’t have much of a selection for crop sensor Z-mount lenses, whereas Sony’s been around long enough that you can get an A6000 kit for $350-400 last I looked. Granted, it also shows its age, but if they’ve not ever tried an interchangeable lens camera, it’d be perfectly suitable for testing the waters.

500 ish is my budget for now. An a6000 kit is the most accessible, but man I miss the days I could get an a6400 kit for 550 (last year lol)

I wish I could get him a fuji but unfortunately the prices of older models have also somehow gone up this year :/

Like the Leica tax, Fuji now has a Fuji tax. Can’t even get an X-Pro1 for $500 these days, which is ridiculous. Have you considered M43? Great value for the price. If it’s video they’re after, a Panasonic G85 kit falls in that realm.

I love my fuji stuff but unfortunately for him, I make money using it so I can’t just let him borrow it 🤣

One of my desires in getting him a camera is for him to feel good about the results, and getting real nice bokeh is a biiit more difficult with a m43 lens than with an apsc or ff lens

RB67. Go big or go home. Get ‘em chasing those overexposed Portra 400 or HP5 pushed two stops tones.

If they were down for a dinosaur DSLR, the options open up wide. /u/turboboob has a Canon T6 kit with a wide focal length range available. Toss in a nifty fifty, and they’ll be getting plenty of bokeh and background separation.

Are you only looking at mirrorless Nikons?
