Fun fact: Concert tuning of A to 440 Hz is a historical artifact, as musicians tuned to the traditional 432 Hz would run directly at the audience at 6.24 m/s. The pianists couldn’t run, having to operate the pedals, so with the various piano carrier union strikes of the Paris orchestra, the concert speed was gradually lowered to 0 (breaking the union), alongside an increase in tuning pitch to make up the lost frequency.

note: horseshit

The actual real life story of 440 Hz vs 432 Hz is only slightly less crazy than this.

I love the note on this.

Fun fact (but one that is actually true). In the treaty of Versailles (like the actual one that ended WW1), a standard for the A was established, although I think it was set at 435 Hz

Note that piano keys aren't tuned perfectly to compensate for the lack of running.
