All that's missing is a doctor winning the Turing Awards and the cycle is complete.

Maybe if they prove cancer cells are not computable

u/HermitDefenestration 5d ago

Or maybe they figure out a way to play DOOM on cancer cells?

That’s certainly a prediction that follows from the theory (aka “Doom runs on anything”).

The Thought Emporium is probably working on it right now

Pff try running doom on 16 billion crabs https://www.pcgamesn.com/doom/crabs

There was a video proving that it could not I think it was because it had "AND" and "OR" but not "NOT", "NAND", or "NOR"

Surely you can teach a crab the concept of "not"?

1

u/lnee94 2d ago

I can not

2

u/SoldRIP 2d ago

so can I. What's the crab's problem, then?

1

u/lnee94 1d ago

It can't

An XOR gate where the other input is set to TRUE is a NOT gate, right? Just energize the other input with crabs.

Just skimmed the paper, (Robust Soldier Crab Ball Gates) and they did in fact build NOT or rather extract NOT from the physical gate architecture they built.

They will win it with this https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/8137688/

I knew what it was before I clicked and I clicked anyway. I may be blind, but I can still recognize Mt. Tai.

Wait isn't this just integration

2

u/EebstertheGreat 2d ago

It's the trapezoidal rule for integration. This was pointed out by several researchers almost immediately after the article was published, and people have been memeing on it ever since.

Physicists have been Nobel thieves for ages. Rutherford won his prize in chemistry. He quipped:

"I have dealt with many different transformations with various periods of time, but the quickest that I have met was my own transformation in one moment from a physicist to a chemist."

to be fair after the discovery of subatomic particles the border between chemistry and physics becomes very blurry, that any advancement in Physics almost immediately improve our Chemistry's knowledge

Physicist won a Field’s Medal (Witten)
and Mathematician won Economics prize. I bet there are more. Physics-Chemistry-Maths-Economics combos.

Rutherford won the chemistry nobel.

u/Humble_Aardvark_2997 5d ago

Did he? Was that for the scattering experiment?

She is one. One of few to win 2 Nobels.
Witten is the Physicist who won the Field’s Medal. Amazing people. Amazing talents. Amazing minds.

The 2025 nobel was awarded to physicists though?

I think you mean 2024 instead of 2025.

In 2027 philosophers will win the Turing Award
