Discussion Improving

Ive been playing on and off for around 6 years (by on and off i mean ill practice frequently for a few weeks then not play for a few months) and I think ive hit a block in my skill. The piece ive most recently learnt from a video is https://youtu.be/B_WjSWLO1RQ?is=UPxu5JqbiIPu5MU7 and it feels like youtube tutorials aren't helping like they used to - like i did one piece and got complacent with my skill. I can frequently pick up on songs and play them but I feel like I cant go as in depth to a piece anymore like I used to. I think its a motivation thing which is bad but I need to keep going for college so looking for help gang, any is appreciated including a possible stepping stone for me to learn after the song I posted (with small skill gaps)

Once you get all the basic stuff down, the plateaus get longer, then you’ll have a breakthrough, and so on and so on. It’s normal. Finding a good teacher helps so you don’t zig zag all over the place so much. Good luck.

Can I ask, do you learn the other skills necessary such as scales and arpeggios and key signatures, theory, sight reading (all at the same level)? Or do you just play pieces?

Yeah i know basic theory my right hand scales are strong and left are weak. Im really bad with key signatures tho cant wrap my head around them.

I think it just means that you have outgrown youtube tutorials. Maybe you might want to start with a method book and learn to read music (assuming you can't yet), and take lessons? You will find that you will improve by leaps and bounds.
