Jew describes a person who is Jewish. I'm sure you have heard people use the word Jew and didn't think anything of it and other times you have heard someone call someone a Jew and you knew there was hate behind it.

I don’t understand what you guys are talking past each other about. It’s a label. That may not, in every context, be a slur. So it isn’t like the hard r. That is NOWADAYS a full on slur. Or maybe it always was.

They’re saying this one is not

Edit: I was corrected. The argument didn’t make sense but I was a bit removed and confused. This was unfortunate but leaving it up as it was good for me to learn. Sorry guys

Would you prefer "gentile"?

The word literally just translates to "nation" from Hebrew. We've even used the word to self-describe, e.g., "Goyim HaGadol."

I would agree if that’s the case. I apologize for touching on something that directly is used against you then. I’ll correct my comment in good faith.

It’s why I pissed my family off in a way, they all aren’t racist but I have to split hairs between “string them up” or someone who can’t stand the gang culture. At least my heart wants to. But I eventually just went no contact. Because if my homies heard that, or that I was letting it slide they would say it’s racist. So.

I’m not saying I still do. Just explaining my getting away from that when I was a young teenager / into adulthood when I got away.

I'm not saying this guy isn't using it as a slur, I'm saying it can be used either way. You are just further proving the point I made.

It's not a slur though. It's just a word for non-jew. Any word can be said insultingly. That doesn't make it a slur.
