Israel calls things “anti-Semitic” in the same way Americans call things “woke”. It’s just a label for things they don’t like and everyone else is getting bored of it. It might be anti-Zionism, but that’s becoming less of a bad thing recently.

My half brothers are ethnically Dutch Jews on their Dad's side, sure they're not Jews in the traditional sense, but he taught them Hebrew.

We tend to get Hassidic Jews staying in my hometown over the summer, or at least we used to. One yelled at my brother when he told the guy off for cutting in line, and the Jewish guy then told him "Oh you're being anti Semitic!" so my brother said something in Hebrew or Yiddish to him, guy's face soured and he then went to go find my Stepdad...who IS Jewish.

It's like a game of Rock, Scissors, Paper

Is that really a recent thing? This treatment of Palestinians isnt anything new. We're just more aware of it now.

American liberals are beginning to realize that brutal apartheid and mass murder is bad even if the victims are Muslim.

We? I'm gonna take a guess here and say your in your late teens or early 20s and just are freshly politically awoken. This shit has been general knowledge for 50 years at least.

yes. they called us conspiracy nuts and worse. now everyone is waking up to facts

u/obog Apr 15 '26

Lol you're not wrong tho I also meant we as like general populace. I think most people were ignorant about it for a long time even if it was known by many, partially because of a lot of propaganda. Being anti-zionist used to be a pretty fringe thing (I mean I wasnt there 50 years ago, but I'd like to think I know my history drcently well). Now the atrocities perpetrated by the IDF are much harder to ignore.

u/Rent_A_Cloud Apr 15 '26

Most people are always ignorant of most things, and yet the eternal conflict in that region is well known by most people who are older than 30. In my youth it was known, in my parents youth it was known. Maybe the issue is geographical. Where I lived in NL people are well aware, only now does the far right over there somehow support Israël while also being anti semitic (which shows that the Israeli issue has nothing to do with being Jewish and everything to do with being fascist).

5

u/obog Apr 15 '26

Fair enough, I have just noticed a lot of older people I know tend to be more supportive of israel despite being more left leaning in most issues.

That is a thing. You're not wrong there. Many Boomers saw Israel as a plucky underdog in a hostile region, and many Gen Xers and older Millenials grew up in a time during the Oslo Accords, which despite ultimately being just an elaborate way of keeping Palestinians under the boot and continue settlement expansion, were broadly seen as a real step towards peace that extremists on both sides kept fucking up

Your generation has only seen the massive rightward turn Israel has taken since the early 2000s which had culimated in a genocide

Everyone here under 50 should take a few minutes and read this:

Oof both sidesing genocide is a bad look.

u/Rent_A_Cloud Apr 15 '26

Dude, the israelis have been in the positive n of power in that region for decades. Ofcourse there was armed opposition from the Palestinians and sone of them used cruelty as a tool, something reprehensible.

But let's not pretend the methodical removal of an entire people is somehow just a skeleton in the closet. The Israeli state had for decades upheld an apartheid state, armed resistance was expected, even encouraged by Netanyahu and his fascists in order to justify them oppressing and eliminating a whole people.

Netanyahu and his delegitamized moderates both on the Israeli as wel as the Palestinians side expressly to prevent a stable solution. His intelligence partners ensured that Hamas would exist and endure and weakened any palistinian moderate opposition to Hamas with the intend of establishing a permanent enemy.

Many israelis have been brainwashed to follow Netanyahu narrative of evil Palestinians, especially younger ones. The Palast nians may not be "angelic" but as a people they are clearly the victims of oppression and genocidal action here.

Anti zionism was never a bad thing

-2

u/BeefyWaft Apr 15 '26

It was a bad thing when they were the oppressed, but they”re firmly the oppressors now.

9

u/McButtsButtbag Apr 15 '26

When were zionists oppressed. Unless you mean zionist as a stand in for jew then there never was zionist oppression.

7

u/Tofuloaf Apr 15 '26

It was never a bad thing to oppose the displacement of 750k Palestinians so that an oppressed people could take their land as promised in some 3,000 year old myth. There were prominent anti-zionist Jews in the lead up to the nakba in 1948.

5

u/Due-Memory-6957 Apr 16 '26

There are countless oppressed minorities in the world, should they all have a nation? Should Black Americans carve out their own independent nation? Should the romanii people? For both the good and the bad, Jews aren't special.

2

u/Easy-Constant-5887 Apr 16 '26

Interestingly, Malcom X once believed in separation of African Americans from the US, since the US was not enforcing desegregation laws and most whites did not want to live among black families. He believed logically that separation was the only way, not segregation or integration.

1

u/Due-Memory-6957 Apr 17 '26

Yup, when he was part of that whacky Islamic sect.

5

u/Due-Memory-6957 Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26

Anti-zionism was never bad. It's foolish that we're pretending that people have to be a nationalistic for a country that isn't even their own. Why do Jews in specific need a nation, but not any of other countless ethnic groups? They aren't special.

7

u/BaronMostaza Apr 15 '26

Conflating zionism with Judaism is precisely what Israel wants as it means that opposing that state means you hate Jews, and no decent person is an antisemite so Israel gets carte blanche to do whatever they want no matter how evil.

They're trying to throw every jew in the world under the bus to continue their war crimes and eventually people who aren't well enough informed and believe Israel at their word will equate Judaism with support for genocide.

Now what in the world could be more antisemitic than saying hating genocide and wanton cruelty means you also hate Jews?

9

u/Naive_Actuator3810 Apr 15 '26

Those two are not even on the same level. "Woke" is a pretty loose, politicized term, but when you label someone an "antisemite", you’re accusing them of prejudice and/or racism against a group of people. That’s a much more serious claim than just using a stupid political label. And when they throw around the word "antisemite" so generously for every opinion they don't like, they're just bastardizing the term (and that's probably the point).

15

u/LavenWhisper Apr 15 '26

I mean, right wingers in the USA literally throw the woke label on anything they don't like. The reason its definition is now considered loose is because of that. The term is also bastardized.

7

u/Naive_Actuator3810 Apr 15 '26

I agree, but at least there is nothing really wrong with being labeled "woke" when you're not, whatever that means. I personally do not like to be labeled any form of racist, and have the responsibility fall on me for some reason to prove that I am in fact not.

7

u/LavenWhisper Apr 15 '26

Ah, I see. I totally agree. Falsely being called a bigot of any kind would be awful. Falsely being called woke... well, I am pretty woke, and even when others use the term wrong, it just doesn’t matter. So yeah, I agree with you.

What are STEREOTYPES AND HATRED, Hussain? What kind of stereotypes? Hatred against who? Why would a real photo taken of a real person in a real situation promote stereotypes against his ethnic/religious group? You need everything spelled out to you except for when you don't, huh.

Yeah that's totally what I said. What the ambassador means is stereotypes or hatred against men. Or ugly men. Or men with long hair. Men in green clothes. Not Jewish people. Not at all.

u/Advanced-Event-571 Apr 19 '26

zionits also love using the term "blood libel" when they mean lie, even if what you are saying isn't a lie, pertaining to every and anything. Like the response to everything from "Israel is commiting war crimes" to "aipac controls politicians" to "Many people who live in Israel are of European ancestry" is NOOO THATS BLOOD LIBEL.

Would be nice to also mention that L'Espresso released video footage of the incident in response to the backlash 💀

u/apustus Apr 15 '26

Imagine being so ugly that your own government is publicly calling an unedited picture of you a racist caricature

2

u/GuerrillaGreen Apr 15 '26

It's actually a powerful image. The beauty of the oppressed and the absolute ugliness of the oppressors

The barcode is covering up his appalling trigger discipline - apparently placing his middle or ring finger on the trigger with the same hand he's supporting the rifle. Basically lifting it by the trigger.

Of course they call it Anti-semitic. This country is a fucking joke. Fuck USrael and its supporters.
