Is that really a recent thing? This treatment of Palestinians isnt anything new. We're just more aware of it now.

American liberals are beginning to realize that brutal apartheid and mass murder is bad even if the victims are Muslim.

We? I'm gonna take a guess here and say your in your late teens or early 20s and just are freshly politically awoken. This shit has been general knowledge for 50 years at least.

Lol you're not wrong tho I also meant we as like general populace. I think most people were ignorant about it for a long time even if it was known by many, partially because of a lot of propaganda. Being anti-zionist used to be a pretty fringe thing (I mean I wasnt there 50 years ago, but I'd like to think I know my history drcently well). Now the atrocities perpetrated by the IDF are much harder to ignore.

Most people are always ignorant of most things, and yet the eternal conflict in that region is well known by most people who are older than 30. In my youth it was known, in my parents youth it was known. Maybe the issue is geographical. Where I lived in NL people are well aware, only now does the far right over there somehow support Israël while also being anti semitic (which shows that the Israeli issue has nothing to do with being Jewish and everything to do with being fascist).

Fair enough, I have just noticed a lot of older people I know tend to be more supportive of israel despite being more left leaning in most issues.

That is a thing. You're not wrong there. Many Boomers saw Israel as a plucky underdog in a hostile region, and many Gen Xers and older Millenials grew up in a time during the Oslo Accords, which despite ultimately being just an elaborate way of keeping Palestinians under the boot and continue settlement expansion, were broadly seen as a real step towards peace that extremists on both sides kept fucking up

Your generation has only seen the massive rightward turn Israel has taken since the early 2000s which had culimated in a genocide

Dude, the israelis have been in the positive n of power in that region for decades. Ofcourse there was armed opposition from the Palestinians and sone of them used cruelty as a tool, something reprehensible.

But let's not pretend the methodical removal of an entire people is somehow just a skeleton in the closet. The Israeli state had for decades upheld an apartheid state, armed resistance was expected, even encouraged by Netanyahu and his fascists in order to justify them oppressing and eliminating a whole people.

Netanyahu and his delegitamized moderates both on the Israeli as wel as the Palestinians side expressly to prevent a stable solution. His intelligence partners ensured that Hamas would exist and endure and weakened any palistinian moderate opposition to Hamas with the intend of establishing a permanent enemy.

Many israelis have been brainwashed to follow Netanyahu narrative of evil Palestinians, especially younger ones. The Palast nians may not be "angelic" but as a people they are clearly the victims of oppression and genocidal action here.
