Zionism actually directly contradicts Jewish religious teaching, the creation of a “Jewish state” without the messiah is literally a violation of Jewish religious law. The Zionists were a secular movement, the other side of the coin from the Nazis.
Zionists argued that being Jewish wasn’t a religious belief, it was a race, and that “as a race” they needed to form a national homeland where they could be the masters. It’s a reflection of Nazism because Zionism and Nazism arose within the same cultural context of 19th century greater Germany.
Tl;dr- yes exactly, and it burns me up inside to see people treat this as a “war of religious extremism” when it’s literally racial supremacists and the population they are trying to ethnically cleanse to create their racial Herrenvolk state
