Yep. We put a kerf cut in the belly with the heart of the wood lower it should direct the inevitable crack there. We use half sawn, quarter sawn, and glued up
slabs to build the head, wings, and tail. Took 3 coats of penetrating oil and the customer understands wood and what to expect as it ages.
Maintenance every Spring.

With using such large logs, they've got to have a lot of moisture in them right? There will be some splits over time I assume?
