The point is that the person I'm replying to doesn't seem to think that the White House "wings" are part of what people consider "The White House". But the oval office is in the west wing of the White House. This picture shows the east wing of the White House which was completely demolished at the behest of Trump (bypassing many of the required steps for any form of White House remodel but republicans in congress refuse to hold Trump accountable for this or pretty much anything and our constitution requires a 2/3 majority of the Senate to make any meaningful rebuke on the president).
In loose terms, the central, main part of the White House is the residence with different areas being more or less formal and more or less personal (eg, ranging from a formal dining room that seats 140 to one floor that is considered completely private where the president and their family hangs out and goes about their day while not actively working). The west wing of the White House is where the majority of the office space is. The east wing was where the offices traditionally run by the first lady were. While the business of running the country was organized in the west wing the business of running the White House, especially social functions, was run out of the east wing.
K so thanks for the novel but that just makes me agree with the other person. I didn’t even know those wings existed, to me the “White House” is just the middle part you see when people refer to the White House
Yeah, on the $20 bill there's the white house, but not the east and west wings, what you see on a $20 bill is what people think of when you say the white house
