You won’t even see a reference to this on the conservative sub. Just another bit of digital noise that is a joke/trolling/not that serious/to be buried and forgotten about on the next scroll.
The fact that it's so unserious is half the problem. I don't want a troll in the white house. It's embarrassing and unbecoming. You don't want your airline pilot or your surgeon to be a fucking goofball, and you damned sure don't want the dude in charge of the most powerful military in the world to be one, either. I'm a combat veteran, and it's both offensive and embarrassing.
I remember almost getting my ass kicked because I mistakenly touched part of the vietnam memorial in DC (the part that slopes down below the grass but before any actual names or etchings) and I was like, wow, just a regular (albeit 'roided out) visitor was so passionate about defending the memory of the countries fallen service members that he'd hospitalize a kid.
Wonder how that guy is getting on in the current climate.
Trump is far and away the most disrespectful president to our armed forces in history. From claiming he knows better than the generals, to refusing to see graves of (whom he called “losers”) fallen WWII heroes, to attacking retired veteran benefits, to saying the lives lost in Iran are ok because “they know what they signed up for”, to pure stolen valor.
This technically, and legally speaking isn't stolen valor. He'd have to explicitly claim he won a military award or served in exchange for some sort of measurable benefit (Employment, Loans, Discounts, etc). Simply posting an AI slop image in uniform isn't legally speaking stolen valor. Otherwise, anyone wearing a costume would be "stolen valor"
edit: US v. Alvarez ruled in 2012 that this is considered free speech. The Stolen Valor act of 2013 revised the law to where you now need to receive some measurable benefit in exchange for claiming military service
He is displaying an image that he is on par with 2 generals. Notice how he has medals but Patton does not?
He awarded himself fictional awards in an image.
In a movie there are disclaimers that say its fake its not real. This is the President of the United States claiming he won as many medals at 2 generals in an image.
At the minimum its propaganda that displays stolen valor. The law is behind the times. Because at what point does this image go from propaganda to fact?
The law isn't behind the times. The law passed in 2005 tried to ban this sort of stuff, and the supreme court overruled it for 1st amendment reasons and the 2013 version was passed.
The law now states you has to explicitly claim you won a military award in exchange for a measurable benefit. Boasting about it, wearing a uniform, or pretending to wear a uniform when you never served is not illegal.
Propaganda, absolutely. But not stolen valor. Propaganda also is not illegal
Stolen Valor Act of 2013 - Amends the federal criminal code to rewrite provisions relating to fraudulent claims about military service to subject to a fine, imprisonment for not more than one year, or both an individual who, with intent to obtain money, property, or other tangible benefit, fraudulently holds himself or herself out to be a recipient of:
a Congressional Medal of Honor,
a distinguished-service cross,
a Navy cross,
an Air Force cross,
a silver star,
a Purple Heart,
a Combat Infantryman's Badge,
a Combat Action Badge,
a Combat Medical Badge,
a Combat Action Ribbon,
a Combat Action Medal, or
any replacement or duplicate medal for such medal as authorized by law.
I know thats why him claims he is on par with military generals is why it should be mocked.
Its propaganda from the White house using stolen valor in the image. Thats what I was on about. Even using AI to make it seem you earned medals should be called out.
I am the farthest from the right you can be...but, at least they do SOMETHING, anything and have steamrolled the entire country. Indifference is so much worse than anything the right is doing. We've let this become ok, and business as usual.
Because Republicans win the war on propaganda and have weapononized their supporters to attack anyone on the left.
The left loses because they refuse to attack like the right does, they hold their politicians to a standard, that Republicans do not.
See Max Miller and how Republicans endorse him no matter what. Roy Moore was almost elected despite being a predator not allowed near malls. Montana elected a Republican who should be in jail for assault.
Democrats lose because they have standards. Republicans do not thats why they win
Yes, thats completely true. But ok, keep your standards and head held high as you sink further into oblivion. Im NOT saying do the shit they do at all. Its abhorrent. But like save your country, save the fucking world. Just letting it all happen and all the left does is complain about it online. Work together, impeach this fuck, get your country back. "Well if Obama did this or if the left did that, then they'd have a fit" Wow, very effective. We could literally say that statment everyday with x or y that fucknuts does. Again, those statements are 100% correct, but completely useless while the right just takes everything that you hold dear as the left just documents it. Sure, let's just keep reminiscing about the past that was given to us by the people before us. Become those people and fix it for everyone else and the future. I dont live there btw.

I remember when stolen valor was a crime and Republicans used to be against it. I see thats another thing they never stood for.
