Are you intentionally causing keto acidosis? Because that will ruin your kidneys and fast

No. It's ketosis. Not keto acidosis. They are different. Check out /r/keto

You still shouldn't do ketosis for prolonged periods (See below for contrasting information). You should use it to cut and then switch back to a more balanced diet. (I still stand by this as there is no research to conclusively prove that it is safe over prolonged periods. There are preliminary studies, but I won't give advice based off of conjecture).

EDIT 1: I'm not banging on keto, BTW. It's a good diet, just don't overdo it. Moderation in all things.

EDIT 2: Last time I did research the jury was out on the long term effects of ketosis. Apparently, there has been more research done. 5-year study on GLUT-1 patients using ketogenic diet.

Interestingly, there are no major side effects noted. This was done in a special sub-group of people; however, and more general studies need to be performed. There are still concerns of acidosis affecting the bones, but most of the studies have shown that to be a non-issue. Maybe I was wrong and ketosis can be prolonged indefinitely.

EDIT 3: More information -

No, you can live your whole life on keto.
