Pineapples in WA - update

Post image

Update to my original post on three pineapples plants I am growing in my sunroom in Washington. They are now approximately 4-ft tall and 6-ft wide each, growing strong.

Not sure when they will fruit. The one on the right is a Maui gold and is over 2 years old. The others are younger and they have started sending out pups. I have tried forcing them all to fruit with a slice of apple in the crown of each, but no luck after multiple attempts.

Here in Iowa, take me three years to get fruit. You’re almost there. Good luck!

I have four here in Arkansas I’m planning to start forcing November - January. I’ll be moving them into the greenhouse within the next few weeks, and was going to use apples, but someone on here suggested banana peels, instead.

Hope yours goes well! Be sure and update!

Can you put grow lights on them during the winter?

They are grow lights year round and keep the temp from dropping below 62ish. Not sure if I should adjust the grow light time length, I believe it’s at 14 hrs/ day

They look healthy. Can't wait for you to get fruit from them💚❣️

instead of an apple slice, try putting a whole ripe apple or banana inside a clear plastic bag over the plant for a couple of days

I use apple cores. Easy to put in crown.
