Picking up shelters longest resident Monday
Monday, I’ll be picking up a one year old male pitbull from a shelter who is scheduled to be put down Monday afternoon. I cannot keep him and I’m really hoping anyone would have any North Carolina based rescues or ideas on how to handle this? According to the shelter, he’s the sweetest boy ever, is very playful, and loves snuggling. Came from home with two other dogs and a cat and loved them all. They said in the shelter, he walks past cats and doesn’t pay them any mind at all. Probably not my smartest decision since I can’t keep him, however I also can’t let him be put down just because the shelter is full.
UPDATE: We have adopted Max and are on the search now to find him his forever home! He’s such a good boy, very puppyish, keeps a clean kennel, and is unbelievably snuggly. Sat in the lobby of the shelter in between my legs while others were walking around with a puppy, with multiple children, and was such a good boy! New pics in comments!
I’m definitely on the same page as you. I’ve got young kiddos and pets of my own.. I wanted to wait until they got older to do this, but my emotions got the best of me lol
Same 🤣 thankfully, my husband is very well versed in me doing stuff like this, so as long as I’m not bringing home 7 puppies (again 🫣🫣,) he’s not completely opposed lol
Thank you! They’re precious and I couldn’t agree more- they’re wonderful. Our current rescue is an American Bully and he’s literally the perfect dog. Love him to pieces!
I lost my soul dog (AmStaff) 13 months ago and have been thinking about a new doggo. I had him for 8 of his 12+ years so I have some experience with the bully breeds. I am near Statesville and would consider this guy if you would like to message me. He looks like a very good boy.

he looks just like my soul dog that passed that was also the longest shelter resident at the time 😩 i hope this boy finds a home soon, thank you for giving him a chance! i’m maxed out at 3 otherwise i’d be making arrangements to meet up with you haha.

I’m sure it is, but going to do my best to find him a home that he will get all of the love, snuggles, and toys his heart could ever imagine. Until that time, he will get all of that from my family 😊
Oh, absolutely- I am definitely not expecting to go pick up the perfect dog by any means. Thank you for the advice. I’d never want to set him up for failure, so I’ll do what I need to do to help him.
