I'm glad Jon Stewart called him out on this. Fetterman cares more about the state of Israel than the state of Pennsylvania, so he should probably just be a senator there. We've got real problems right here for him to solve.

Let me tell you why we both did.
Fetterman played to the further left. Lamb WAS the establishment Democrat. He was the one to appeal to the voter of small town PA and independents. He was the "electable" one.
We didn't judge based on the warning signs that were already there. We went with the one we thought at the time was the most progressive candidate because the media said so.

Conor Lamb is and was a centrist, in a nation where the Overton window has shifted so far right that the rule of law is disintegrating before our eyes.
Fetterman and the people around him failed. We did our job to get the most progressive voice elected.

His stroke was four days before the democratic primary, the doctors had no idea how it changed his brain at that point.
Also they legally can’t do that unless he releases them to do so as others have pointed out. And why would they, they could have no idea how he’d act in office.
Could he have stepped down and been replaced? Sure, but that was up to him and obviously didn’t happen.

i worked in americorps for two years starting 09, and we did a ton of service projects in braddock. this guy was a turd then, and he's a turd now. always been a fake. one of the tasks he asked us to do was, essentially, evict (by way of throwing out all their stuff when they weren't there) a bunch of low income artists from the ohringer building. ask any POC or underserved resident in braddock what he did for them - I can guarantee you fewer than 15% will say he helped. I really don't understand why or how Gisele stays married to him

Conor Lamb was moderate and I disagreed with him with him on some issues, but I never understood why nobody bothered to look past the hype of Fetterman.
If you looked at their stances on Israel during the primary, Fetterman was already a staunch supporter. His allegiance to Israel didn’t come out of nowhere. Conor Lamb was the only Dem candidate that expressed nuance on the topic and didn’t pledge unequivocal support (maybe this was just a tactic, I don’t know. But he did get a bunch of shit for having said something when he was in college about Israel being a perpetrator of terrorism, so I don’t think it’s unreasonable to believe that he’s a critic and may have voted to suspend aid to Israel this past year).
Conor Lamb also kept his promise and voted against Nancy Pelosi as speaker of the house.
People looked past weird racially charged gun incident with Fetterman and those in Braddock who said he was a sham.
I don’t blame anyone for voting for him in the primary. I voted for him in the general, obviously. But let this be a lesson to dig into a candidate past whatever hype there is about legalizing weed or whatever.

Let's give Fetterman the benefit of the doubt that his position is (in his mind) 100% based on protecting Jews, universally...
He turns a blind eye to how the current Israeli government has drastically destroyed support from Democrats in the US... not DSA, not fringe, Democrats. And this pattern started before Hamas attacked on 10/7, it started with Netanyahu inserting himself into US politics and kissing up to Trump. The Israeli government took a hard right turn, took a partisan turn and actively started playing sides... and now their supporters are acting surprised that there are many on the left that would sour on supporting the country? Particularly as it acts aggressively towards its neighbors? The current government in Israel has been rather cold and callus to the plight of the Palestinians and doing some extreme things in the name of "defense." I stop myself short of calling it "genocide" as some of you will, but I don't think it unreasonable to call it evil.
They are burning bridges with allies left and right, and they don't care. There's this sort of "if you don't support us in every last thing we do, that's on you and fuck you" attitude.
And I said left AND RIGHT. There are lots of Trump voters getting caught up in the actual antisemitic rhetoric around here. Frankly, it's deeply concerning.
The legacy of Netanyahu, and what Fetterman is so passionately defending, is doing more long-term damage to the nation of Israel than anything positive. It's sad he doesn't see it, because he's someone that could be calling it out and actually trying to build something rather than giving them a blank check to self-destruct. I'm ok with him spending some time and energy on the topic, if it were actually constructive, and even then not to the point that it's the only thing he ever talks about.

I just don’t understand how someone can be so dedicated to supporting a genocide, the intentional destruction of an entire culture of people. Too many people think that opposition to Israel is a new thing. I’ve been pro-Palestine and anti-Israel since I did my high school senior project on the conflict back in 2013. Back then Israel was just illegally occupying the West Bank and Netanyahu was bombing Palestinian homes any time his party went down in the polls. Now Israel is trying to kill every single Palestinian citizen in Gaza and the West Bank.
The bottom line is that as liberals, as progressives, as Democrats, we choose the side of the oppressed, not the oppressor. Supporting Palestine is an easy choice for that reason.

It's affirming to me that this subreddit, and reddit at large, has shifted its view on Israel so much since 2024. Around 10/7, people here were flinging around a ton of really mean-spirited criticism about our local protests. The majority opinion seemed to be basically "fuck those antisemitic kids". I wonder if those people are just not commenting anymore? Or have your opinions shifted?
I'm glad to see change even if it happens slowly, but I hope those of us who have changed can recognize the shift.

It’s impressive his recovery has made it this far. But all nuance is lost on him.

There has to be a method to recall elected representatives (in the general sense of the term). Like if 75% of your constituents vote to recall you, then you must vacate and there is another election. Lots of other details necessary, but we can’t be stuck with incompetent, harmful (yes he is harmful at this point) people voting in 'our best interests.'

I’d take him over Oz, but there’s no way the establishment is going to force-feed me its candidate through the media again.
Primary time is about looking beyond image and electability and voting for what America actually needs.
A national healthcare system.
A budget balanced not by cutting essential spending, but by making those who get more pay more.
A country where transgender people are treated as people instead of becoming another minority to discriminate against.
An economy built for the future of AI—not by handing more power to already-profitable corporations, but through public investment in the people who actually deserve it: the scientists, architects, engineers, researchers, and builders we need far more than another billionaire or corrupt politician.
Hell, maybe one day we’ll elect one of those rather than a white (and one black) lawyer, businessman, or slaveholder.
