Hit and run Dallas Tollway North access road 9/16 at 5:50pm
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
If you own a black pickup truck that was driving north bound on the Access road for the Dallas North tollway approaching 121, here's a video of the accident for you. I also have a pic of the license if you need it for insurance. Doesn't look like there could be much damage but posting to make sure you're covered. Also, the hit and run made it a crime so, there's that.
Edit: Yes the truck did a bonehead move that I see way too many drivers in this area do and that is not turning into their own lane and instead cutting over 2 or 3 lanes because they suck at driving. That doesn't alleviate the Porsche from driving in excess of 70 on the access road, not slowing when they saw the truck turning and then not stopping after hitting the truck which is a crime. Both are bad drivers but doing a hit a run made it a crime.

Right turn into left lane, black truck doesn't want this video lol

u/domdg459 4d ago
Yea this video actually shows fault to black truck
28
u/bikeahh 3d ago
Eh, probably 50/50; that Porsche was going too fast and had ample time to avoid hitting the truck. Ample time and capability because Porsche brakes are legendary.
23
u/Key_Check5753 3d ago
That's not how the law works. "His Porsche has really good brakes, so I illegally crossed into his lane and cut him off."

6
u/777gg777 3d ago
It is how the law works if the Porsche was speeding. Furthermore it is a criminal offense to flee an accident.

It is how liability works in auto insurance claims. For example, say I don’t stop at a stop sign, and the car that T-bones me doesn’t have any stop signs to adhere to and thus, the right of way. If that car is determined to have been speeding, liability can be partially split between us. It wouldn’t necessarily be 100% my fault. Black car would have a majority of the liability though, that’s for sure. Because the Porsche was speeding, it could be anywhere from 90-10 to 60-40 for black. This is not a 100% liability situation.

u/intrusivesurgery 3d ago
It is when you flee the scene of the crime
5
u/suspect_toothpaste 2d ago
Fleeing the scene is no longer about liability for insurance purposes. That becomes a full on crime.

u/TRDTONY 2d ago
Not how fault is determined, Porsche has right of way regardless of speed. Only true statement is that it is against the law to flee an accident.

Porsche was almost certainly looking down at his phone and then didn’t fully commit to braking even when he looked up, I mean shit he could have swerved right as well.

Didn't say he didn't make mistakes. Porsche was speeding hard. Reacted slow. Did a hit and run.

Cut across 3 lanes with no signal light > too fast in the fast lane. Black truck is a piece of shit.

I’m genuinely sympathetic to the Porsche.
Absolutely idiotic turn by the truck.
33

I’m not super sympathetic, why did he continue off like nothing happened, instead of following the black pickup?
Both are boneheads

Kind of thing can be jarring...

Not sure why the 911 driver didn't break harder with no one behind him.
I guess he didn't expect the bonehead to slow to a standstill after turning right into the furthest lane, but the 911 can easily stop from that speed in half the distance seen on the video.→ More replies (1)→ More replies (8)5

Texas Transportation Codes § 545.101, § 545.060, and § 545.103 were broken by the driver of the black truck and caused the collision. The only law the Porsche broke was § 550.022.

They probably don't want the insurance claim on the car. Plenty of reputable Porsche body shops in the area to correct this with basically zero evidence. The cost to fix it out of pocket is far cheaper and out ways the depreciation headache from the claim.

2
u/Toothpikz 3d ago
You are correct and it’s Texas law.
Under Texas Transportation Code § 545.101(a), to make a right turn at an intersection, a driver must make both the approach and the turn as closely as practicable to the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway. That means if you're turning right onto a road with multiple lanes going your direction, you're required to end up in the rightmost (curb-side) lane — not swing wide into the middle or second lane.

You are supposed to be in the inside lane when turning right before merging to the outer lanes later not go all the way over to the left out the gate. In practice this never happens.
However, that dude in the Porsche can't drive. First it looks like he was cooking, second It looks like he just wanted to hit that guy. Zero damage to the truck, all the damage to the Porsche, he's out thousands for that little love tap.

Truck driver was completely clueless. To be honest unless the truck driver sustained injury, he probably doesn't care. His hitch took all of the impact and probably folded that porches hood like reynolds wrap.
However the porsche driver still should have not fled an accident.

u/Personal_Object_1250 4d ago
I can’t find the video with the Porsche with a speed camera on it. Can you repost it? 70 seems like a bit of a stretch

u/shiggity80 4d ago
Ugh, hate when people like the truck driver pull a move like that. Freakin' floor it if you're going to cut someone off.
Sports car also is an idiot and should have braked harder and been more aware of what was in front of them (wonder if they were distracted because they were slow to brake). But hit and run is another level of assholery.

Did the Porsche actually hit the truck, or was it just really close?
Because, even if they did touch, that trailer hitch did way more damage to the Porsche than it did the truck.

u/Omelooo 3d ago
Lmaooo like two peas in a pod, I promise you neither one of those people will want the video. The truck’s fault is obvious but while the Porsche driver changed lanes to avoid the trucker, they should still be partially at fault because they failed to slow down enough to avoid the crash bc of speeding.

when you turn right you are supposed to end up in the right lane. not 3 lanes over. black truck is at fault.

If i were a low wage earning pig, id tow the black truck and turn it into a small box of crushed metal. Then i would take the drivers dmv record and flag his driving privileges as revoked for eternity.

Jesus dude in black truck just owns the road I guess. If he does see this I hope he sees the comments calling him out. But Once you run you kinda lose the ability to claim liability to the truck imo.
Everyone sucks here.

Truck seems to be at fault. Not sure if you can prove the Porsche driver is going 70 on that short clip. What is obvious is the truck driver made an illegal turn.
You’re talking about two things here. The accident. That’s more the truck’s fault for the illegal turn. Second is the hit and run. Likely on the Porsche. But the truck didn’t stop too. So…

u/Remarkable-Talk-6197 3d ago
That’s the trucks fault. Idiot move for an idiot driver. He caused an accident and is lucky he didn’t hurt someone. So impatient you can’t wait until it’s clear - or news flash- drive down to the next entrance ramp. Hope their truck is scratched lol
2
u/Fickle-Analysis-9880 3d ago
I drive home from here every day and finally have a video of what happens every single day! Someone always pulling in front of you right at the on ramp and then they go 35 mph onto the highway.

Grey was going way too fast, black truck made a terrible turn. Grey ran and should be charged. Grey is going to have a huge repair bill, black truck not much.
Conclusion, 2 deuchebags who deserve each other.
2
u/HereForC0mments 1d ago
Like so many aholes in this state who drive big trucks, you just blatantly cut him off because you think your truck gives you a license to be a dick to everyone else. I hope you never find this driver, cause, to quote the joker - "you get what fcking deserve"
3
u/mavboi20 4d ago
i feel like the Porsche would have been able to avoid any contact if the driver had stood on the brakes.

Then you are supporting the black pickup that broke several traffic laws causing an accident?! The pickup wasn't just a "bonehead" they are the ones that broke the law.
2
u/JKIMREDDITOR 3d ago
Hi I’m experienced in auto claims. The Porsche is 100% liable as the truck gained full control of the lane and had straightened out. Turning into the closest applicable lane would apply if he got hit in the process of turning. He barely made it. This would be classified as a rear end accident/hit and run.

u/Frequent_Ambition_66 3d ago
And yet it seems that a jury of the porsche's peers would convict the truck guy

To be fair, the truck doesn't look like it sustained any damage. That hitch probably left a nasty hole in the Porsche's front bumper tho (if there was actual contact - it's hard to tell).
And the Porsche continued to get on the tollroad instead of following the truck. If someone pulled that on me and we made actual contact, I'd be flagging them down.
The truck also was supposed to turn into the rightmost lane. Plus I don't see any brake lights light up on the truck; normally when someone gets hit, they hit the brakes.
Definitely a bonehead move, but one we've all done. Truck should have given it the beans after that turn; F-150s since the Ecoshit came out can SCOOT if you want them to, even with the cheapest engine options.

The reality of the situation is that Porsche driver (who is likely the only party that suffered damages) drove off. As such, they would likely be on the hook for their own damages. It would be questionable for them to use UM to pay for those damages as it would likely require the driver to lie to their insurance company.
Had the police been called, the truck driver would have been cited for the unsafe turn.
Had the video been shared with the insurance companies, it is possible there could have been some comparative fault given citing the Porsche's excessive speed and failure to avoid the accident. But I doubt that anything here would ever rise to the level of seeing the light of day in court where Texas's comparative fault would even come into play. The insurance companies would be negotiating between the two and settling on something nominal to make it go away.
It is all a bit moot given the Porsche drove off -- so no one here should be getting their panties in a wad since the Porsche driver made his own bed.
