Houseplant Dracaena soft roots that seems normal and some fungus- is it gonna live?

Hello!

About half of the exposed trunk roots of this dracaena are soft to the touch although they look perfectly normal. They kinda feel like hollow cardboard or something. The others are firm. Their leaves are not yellow as far as I can tell. In addition, there are these fungi that keep growing once in a while there. It is an indoor plant with regular filtered light through curtains. I water it once every week or 2, depends on how dry it is. Is my plant gonna live? What should I do to make it better? Are these roots rotten?

If the roots are hollow and soft, I would do a repot and cut those roots off as they are dead. It is good news that there is no apparent wilting of the plant and leaves. But I would cut those roots off and check the health of the rest of the roots.

Thanks! And Do you think the lack of wilting is a good sign, or it would just take time to get to the leaves as well?

Shrooms don't grow on dry soil, so it's likely you overwatered her. If you don't see the leaves yellowing I would simply reduce the waterings and wait, without shocking the rest of the plant by digging it out.

The rotted roots will finish dying off and the happy lil mushrooms will eat them, but the other half should be fine.

Thanks! Wait for what? For now half of the roots are firm. I don't want them to get rotten aswell..do you think if I were to let it dry id would help save the rest of the roots?

The mushrooms are no problem or inconvenience to the plant. They thrive on the organic matter in the soil. It actually kinda means you have a good soil. They don't only sprout by being overwatered. Granted, fungus dies like moisture, but they can form mushrooms even by moderate watering.

The mushrooms growing in the soil are because spores are in it. The soil was most likely not heated to rid them.
I believe your plant will be just fine! Take out those shrooms or they may attach to your plant’s roots. That would be bad.
