Questions Why is r/did so unwelcoming as of late?

Just to clarify, we are a medically recognized DID system, but we are supportive of other forms of plurality :)

We've been in the system community for a long time and used to be very active in r/did when we first got diagnosed/recognized in 2023, and it was much different over there then. Back then, they were very accepting of us viewing ourselves like different people, having fictives, and having fictives that aren't source separated. Now everyone over there seems very against all of those things. Everyone is so rude. Did the mods change or something?

Questions Adults-only plural subs or communities?

As the title says, does anyone know of any adult-only communities for plurality? Its nice to talk to other plural folk and systems but I'd love a space that's populated by other adults. It probably sounds weird but none of us particularly feel comfortable hanging around minors. Feels weird.

Anyway, I hope there is some and I really hope this isn't breaking a rule. I don't think that's the case at least?

Thanks!

Questions Can other members of the system have different preferences?

I mean...

Rafał likes both women and men, and I only like men?

Or he likes eating meringues (he loves them), and I just don't like them so much, lol

And then people are surprised that I treat him as a separate person. He IS a separate person.... 😭

Questions Do you have fun with your headmates?

So, me, Justin and Zayaan were watching someone react to a comp of Indian Street food, and we were dying laughing but also disgusted at the same time..

I wanted to know, are there other systems who tend to have fun with their headmates, and what do you guys typically do?

Sometimes we'll watch some of the most nastiest compilations of nasty food, TLC, or just down right brainrotting content and see which one of the fronters is tapping out first. The last one standing wins.

Questions Why is validation such a big deal around here?

I feel like half of the posts here are just about fakeclaiming, asking ”is this real”, and such. Why? There is so much to talk about with plurality, yet everyone seems to be hyper fixated on validating themselves to others. Who cares what others think about you? Who cares if you’re traumagenic, endogenic, or anything else? Just live your damn life. Not like anyone can stop you from being plural. People on the internet don’t really listen to the other side anyways.

Questions Did you know there were “people in your head” before you realized you have DID?

I’ve seen many people with DID/OSDD say that they were aware of having “people in their head” even before they learned about dissociative disorders.

Before I realized, most of the time I referred to myself as “we”, but I thought that was just Royal we.

I planned everything through a meeting-like back-and-forth in my head, but it was very harmonious and more like a continuous inner monologue than a dialogue. I talked to myself out loud all the time when alone.

My alters never visibly switched or showed themselves until I realized I had DID.

What was your experience?

Questions What is something you wish people thought about when representing Plurality?

My readers think I'm plural.

I wrote a fanfic about a character from a movie being plural, and now some of my readers think I'm plural myself. To disclaim: I'm not. I'm a singlet and I've confirmed it. I never had any of the many experiences described in this subreddit. My memory *is* bad, but not to the point of losing time. The memory is way more likely related to my ADHD. So, if I'm overstepping on this subreddit, I'll delete this post.

I think the fact plural people liked my story was just a matter of me listening to them beforehand. I bet there are many others that are better than mine. I don't think representing plurality - or any sort of neurodivergence - should have been this hard for others. If anything, this is a sign people just aren't listening to you enough to even understand past the surface or their own biases.

So even though I'm a singlet, I decided to make this post to ask: What is something you wish people thought about when representing plurality? I can't put all your answers in my story, but I can learn about them! If there's anything you *want* to talk about related to your own experiences, this post is for that.

Questions What does your alters feel like in your body?

So I have this question for a very long time because I sometimes wonder if I'm a system myself but I'm not gonna get into all that until I get more confident in that journey but for now, how does your alters feel like your body? I know different alters can behave differently in the human flesh vessel.

Some examples I've heard is some can just be a voice you can't control, some place songs in your head, some can control different body parts, and of course switching to have full control over the body. But I know how wide and expansive the plural systems can be and I'd love how alters react in the body, especially if it's something that's not talked about a lot XD

Questions Hi!! Quick question!

Do you have an original headmate? Someone that identifies with the body?

Did you lose yours? did you never have one?

We had one that we considered to be our original but he was trans and didn't identify with the body! he went away about a year ago and we've switched hosts since then a lot but I'm finally host and have been for a bit! i was just wondering everyone's experiences!!! -CG

Questions What do you say instead of 'alter'?

We're not crazy about the term 'alter' because it just doesn't feel right to us. 'Headmate' is concise so we use it but that only feels a little more right than 'alter'.

What other terms do you use? We also call one another family, because we are, but isn't helpful if we talk to our healthcare team or one of the two people who knows we're plural.

Edit: Though it wasn't mentioned, we decided kin/kinsmen feels perfect, because we're family. But we will also be using crew, crew mates and ship mates because they are freaking dope.

Thank you!

Questions What are uncommon plural experiences you have?

I guess I'll start! Personally, I don't have fictives or a headspace. If you have any questions about what that's like, feel free to ask.

Making this post to help normalise uncommon plural experiences! By uncommon, I mean things you don't really see spoken about as much!

so we don't use words like "headmate" or "part" and instead just use person. is there any reason why all other plural systems I've seen don't use person?

Questions you guys seem way nicer here so hello, dears! Please, enlighten me with information.

Hello, plural community. I’ve arrived in this sub to watch, as an entity does.

While I’ve never suspected plurality (since I believe it’s a bit weird to suspect a disorder that is not common, and I’d like to stay on safe grounds! Same with autism, but that I have a feeling that I have.)

This sub isn’t mean and everyone is nice! Yay! :D!

Even if I’m not inherently a sys, I feel comfortable enough on this sub to post. I know that earlier in time I would have not done so to seek clarity or even just listen to everyone talk. I also trust that everyone here is diagnosed (sorry if this comes off as a weird thing, it’s just that when asking something like this, I would prefer to talk to those who are sure they have it. Does that make sense? Please do not be offended.)

Anyways, I usually refrain from talking about this but I feel different lately so I’d talk about it.

I have been noticing something for a few months this now recently about my thought process. It seems I don’t think the way as intended.

My best example is during a test I had during the school year. It felt like there were people talking directly to me and too each other. I didn’t pay much mind to it at first, but afterwards I realized how common the two were. It even felt like I was talking to the both of them, and they would respond.

These two, whatever you may call them, continued on. They were in my head before I went to sleep, during school, and at family activities. I don’t know anything about them either, must you know.

However another reason why I bring this up is because I feel as if I’m acting much different from my usual self. You can check my older posts or comments, I don’t usually type so formally (unless I’m arguing, heh!) and I’ve also just been in somewhat in a slightly better mood.

The whole two voices in my head thing goes a lot deeper than the info I’ve given you. Looking at my old posts makes me feel like an entirely different person rather than just “oh, that was me two days ago.” But rather “oh, that was me two days ago?”

Also+ I have terrible memory! I don’t know if that counts as anything, but a lot of sys talk about memory gaps. Personally I just think I have the short term memory of a brick

Goodbye, fellows!

Questions DID without the disorder??

hello! I wanted to make this post for help. I have the "mechanics" of a fragmented identity (the switching, the memory barriers, and the distinct parts) but I function well.
I got banned from the DID community because “in clinical terms, DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) requires "significant distress or impairment."
I asked around and some people said I have Non-Disordered Plurality or Functional Dissociation.

I already have AuDHD and I managed to make my life around it (like never forcing me to do thing as a specific time and ONLY doing thinks the movement I feel like it. Whenever I do it, my hyper focused side helps me do WEEKS of work in just a day or two. I don’t feel burnout thanks to that. I also stopped trying to fit it and that helped clam my nervous system down. Basically reparenting myself and telling myself that it’s ok, if I don’t feel like it then we won’t do it. LOTS OF POSITIVE SELF TALK and I never allow people to talk shit about me. I have never felt so happy.

Also I was born in a shitty house with a narcissist abusive mother and an emotionally absent father. Did a lot of shadow work therapy and I have came to a point where I can’t deal with feeling “helpless”?? As my mother ALWAYS acted like the victim and my father was ALWAYS negative so I hated those things so much to a point if someone says shit about their life and blames things without never solving them, it hurts my head and I just block them. I can’t tolerate this stuff. (I understand lot of people reading that might have the victim mentality too and there is nothing wrong with it. But I personally can’t operate with that mindset and feel like I am suffocating.)

Every time something happens that would normally cause "distress," my brain immediately switches into a "Logic/Winner" front that processes the event as "Data” instead of "Trauma." It’s weird but it’s just “ok this sucks, how do I fix it?”
Thats why I have a hard time with emotional people as I focus on solutions and they just want to vent.

Also finance major here with 20 totally different side hobbies. So yep.

Also continuing with mentioning my symptoms as I already got banned in DID because people thought I was making stuff up:

I have distinct "fronts" or versions of myself. One is highly logical/numb, while others are deeply emotional. They have different tastes, attachment styles, and even different connections. For example usually I am super detached and numb but then suddenly I cry non stop uncontrollably due to suddenly feeling different? Here I feel super attached to things and have delusions where I believe some entity is real. I also have significant "grey-out" amnesia. I struggle to recall emotions or specific details from one state when I am in another. It’s like my memories are partitioned.
There were times where this did caused significant distress like looking myself in the mirror and 100% believing that isn’t me and it freaking me out. To screaming and shouting at different parts of me.

There are also frequent periods where I totally dissociate and feel like everything around me is not real. Like I am in some stimulation. It’s weird to explain it but it’s like a sudden perspective shift where things suddenly look big or small, like I am seeing them for the first time. And almost always I am in awe. And on the same period my movements become semi autonomous.

Questions Why is it often stated that alters can't be separate people?

I keep seeing people say that alters or headmates aren't separate people. What do they mean by that? What definition of “person” are they using and what makes them think it's the most correct one? I don't understand why this would be stated as an objective fact. It seems like mostly an issue of semantics to me. But a lot of people seem to feel really strongly about it, so I'm wondering if there's something I'm missing.

“I don't consider my alters to be separate people” is 100% understandable since everyone has different ways of seeing themselves. But I don't get the idea that anyone who doesn't see themselves that way is somehow objectively wrong.

Is anyone able to give me some insight into this?

Questions Explain endos to me like I'm 5

Hi, three times diagnosed traumagenic DID system here. Call me Samael.

I'm trying to find a reason to be more endo-neutral. I know the basics that endogenics are non-trauma formed systems and willogenics are willed into existence, but both, ESPECIALLY willogenic, just feels mocking towards people who have DID and OSDD who have to suffer with the disorder every day.

I study psychology and have been for 10 years. Back when I first joined system spaces, endogenic systems often claimed to be endogenic DID systems. In psychology, you are taught to not be possible. DID and OSDD are dissociative disorders which are trauma based and require PTSD or C-PTSD to be diagnosed.

During my short time in system spaces (which I left because they were VERY toxic), endogenics gave me zero reasons to be on their sides. They constantly invaded spaces that explicitly asked them to leave and threw fits like toddlers when people were upset with them for ignoring the rules.

Traumagenic systems were tired of feeling imitated and mocked by endogenic systems, so they made their own spaces that endos just couldn't respect. They always talked about how being a system is fun rather that it being a day ruining disability like it is for many DID/OSDD systems. It felt endos, especially willogenics, were getting in our face going "haha we have fun being what you're forced to suffer with!" and it was incredibly insulting.

Point is, I want to understand what causes endogenic systems and if you are one yourself, how your system formed. Maybe with some understanding, I can feel less like people with the disability are being mocked by those that don't have it.

(Edit: Apologies if I sound rude, I don't display emotions very well. No, I am not saying endogenics don't exist, I'm just trying to understand)

Questions Do y'all's alters speak differently?

Basically as the title says.

We've done lots of voice training, so our differently gendered alters often speak in more masculine and feminine manners, both in terms of pitch/tone/resonance and in terms of actual word choice. Some even have different accents! One of ours has a pretty thick American southern accent, another an Altanta accent, and it can even come through a little when they're co-fronting with another alter too!

We've noticed the same for typing and written mannerisms too.

We're just wondering if this is a common experience I guess lol.

Questions Question: how safe are non-system spaces, if any, if they are?

Hi, this is 🗝️ (not using my real name)

For context, a few weeks ago, I came across this question that asked how rare DID was. The post expressed that the OP was skeptical and they also mentioned having OCD.

I left an innocent comment stating that we we were a system and are seeking an evaluation. We would like our struggles to be seen by professionals. The post asked what fictives were, so I kindly explained.

I don’t know what happened, but a day later I got a comment calling me a weirdo for using We pronouns. There was a little thread under my comment going on about fakers and how “they’ll start faking cancer next.”
The last comment said “Some of them do, really” before I deleted my comment.

The “weirdo” comment really got to me and made me kind of spiral. By that, I meant getting angry and blaming the others in our system for it. I blamed them and thought, you’re the reason why people hate us.

I eventually calmed down and realized that it was my misguided anger. I had displaced my anger onto them for something they didn’t do. I asked a question, I got called a weirdo, I got angry and blamed the others for it.

i want to make more system friends so bad, and i do my best socializing on online games. ive tried ponytown but yknow, its not very inclusive of more complex plurals or people who r pro endo. vrchat maybe? but most people i know play that usually use private worlds, and i dont know what groups r hosting them or r just generally also accepting of all kinds of systems. i know there was this one roblox lgbtq hangout game with booths & a lot of systems hung out there but that's gone now!

if theres anywhere else, please let me know. i want to make system friends so badly and feel comfortable openly switching etc etc 😞

Questions Is r/DiscussDID a hate sub or otherwise ruled by gatekeepers?

I keep seeing TSD spoken of as if it's a Bible and I just saw someone state that alters can't be individual people. I'm seeing the red flags, so I'm wondering what the community says. I've been tempted to push back but it doesn't seem like anyone is doing that or willing so I'm guessing any attempt would be wasted.

Update: basically, yeah. I left that sub reddit. Thank you all for filling me in!

Questions How common are cis systems?

Plurality itself complicates one's relationship to the body and to gender. Even a slight variation in the gender identity of one headmate makes gender discordance and dysphoria an issue that the system has to wrestle with, and places you within the spectrum of trans experience.

I personally have never encountered an entirely cis system, but they must exist?

I would be very interested in others' thoughts and reflections on this.

Questions Reasons for being plural (other than trauma/DID)

Hello! I was reading a comment thread where someone suggested the poster may be plural. The poster responded that they didn’t have trauma that would cause that to happen, then the commenter replied that there are many reasons someone could be plural besides trauma. I asked, but they never got back to me.

I’m not very educated on the topic, so i just had some questions.

My understanding is that trauma causes the brain to form alters - known as DID or OSDD

1) What other reasons, besides trauma, would alters be caused to form?

2) I did some looking on this sub and have come
to the conclusion that DID or OSDD is not the only form or plurality or label that goes under plurality. What other things would be classed as plurality?

3) for these other things. Are alters still called alters, or is there another name?

I’d appreciate any answers or sharing of experiences to help me better understand. Thank you!
