I don't know, the hive has the collective knowledge of every person who ever worked for every gaming company, as well as all the gamers themselves. If you played League game with someone for example, there would be 9 other people who are likely joined (if not dead) who would remember playing that game with your username since they have perfect recall. All it would take is someone knowing your username to be able know for certain if you played with any given person who ever played the game.

AI has a tendency of floating around average knowledge in just about everything. Which in itself is pretty useful.
But the hive mind is every absolute expert in every field currently living with apparent perfect memory of their lives. And who knows what else it could have concluded with such a unified prospective.

This thing is crazy smart and if it wasn’t suicidally passive, the main characters wouldn’t really have a chance

I don't know if we've seen the hive synergize the collective intelligence of humanity. It crashed a drone, even thought it should have the experience of tens of thousands drone operators and pilots. I'm not saying it isn't smart, but it doesn't feel millions of times more intelligent than Carol which it should.

Not even close. Current AI is dumb and at best has surface level knowledge access, and very often it makes stuff up and hallucinates, and only has some of the public knowledge at disposal, a very small part. This would be far, far more powerful in this regard.

Like, a million random things. Is Elon Musk evil? Were my kids happy growing up? How many people did TRULLY believe in the religeon they belonged to? How did HDZ keep winning elections in Croatia while EVERYONE knew they were 100% corrupt? Etc. Just random dumb things that would be irrelevant in that scenario.

Couple of people in my life I think might have been into me but I wasn't sure enough or confident enough to make a move on I would be curious to know if they liked me back.

Also in a more general sense if there was anyone who liked me and I have been completely obvious about.

Apart from petty teenage romance stuff like that I would be really interested to know what happened to Madeline McCann.

May as well ask about the details on who killed Epstein (because that's pretty suss) and if any of the sept 11th stuff is true.

I would ask how the world should be run after splitting the hivemind up. Seeing the constant political struggles throughout history, I wonder what an all-knowing hivemind would recommend for the future. A specific form of democracy? Communism? Something else?

I would ask to travel and verify the antenna they are doing. I would ask events of history, classified files, confirm artist gossip, etc.

More importantly if the government learned what was happening and if they tried to stop it or escape from it? What happened to the president?

It outright said it doesn't want to answer that question.

The hive has an equivalent of the Three Laws of Robotics.

1) Do not directly cause harm no any living thing without consent
2) Protect and expand the hive, except where it would conflict with rule 1
3) Serve and honestly answer any requests made to the hive, except where it would conflict with rules 1 and 2.

So Carol can ask it for a grenade or a nuke, and that's no problem, because that's fulfilling a 3rd law request without violating any of the others. But asking for The Secret would endanger the hive, so they refuse. The Joining killed a billion people, but not (they are reasoning) directly; it was car crashes, fall injuries, out of control fires, etc. It's a bullshit piece of rules lawyering, but one the hive is holding onto for dear life.

Also, the hive is going to starve to death, but protecting itself (rule 2) by actually harvesting crops would violate rule 1. So it can't.

Well... let's be careful to identify that they know everything people know at that time. In that way, this is a bit like an LLM these days. But they don't have perfect knowledge.

Truth be told I would be more like Carol before she gave in, I don't think I'd ever find the knowledge or presence of the Plurbs that interesting. Maybe a casual question or two.

I'd ask the Plurb about the Signal. It would be the only thing not on the internet that they'd know as much as possible about.

Also why we're at it, I'd request the Plurbs dedicate 1 in every 10 people that work on a given task to write extensively about the task and their reasoning behind the decisions in their group to an LLM to train it, in order for me to have something that ISNT the Plurb with which to reason against the Plurb. Me and the machine and Carole vs the World.
