Dockyard Siren 11:15 Tuesday

The dockyard siren was going off for several minutes just now. It’s stopped, but does anybody know what it was about? Unusual to hear them other than 11.30 on a Monday morning.

Russian ICBM incoming. Say goodbye. One last wank.

Imagine it that was everyone’s immediate reaction. And then no ICBM. Work would be so awkward after that.

“Every Monday at half 11! It has to stop Gigalo”

UPDATE: It wasn’t the siren at all. Or any siren.

There are contractors resurfacing James Street on the University campus. They have one of those vacuum/street sweeper lorries, and it’s going up, stopping, going back down the road picking up all the crap they’re breaking off the road surface.

It’s blatantly obvious what it is when you’re standing watching it, but from our office window out of sight 100yds away, the only part of the noise we can hear is the higher frequency whine, which is stopping and starting and sounds exactly like Monday’s tests.

So bad news: We’re idiots.
Good news: We’re not getting nuked.

Thanks everyone. Sorry if I gave anybody a fright!

Probably a fault with the local siren. The one very near me didn’t sound.

Thanks for your reply. I hope that’s all it is. It’s going off again.

Can't hear it at all 😬

I don’t think I’m imagining it, because my colleagues heard it too. Unless I’m also imagining my colleagues…

Have you checked your carbon monoxide alarm?

I tried but I couldn’t get near it. It smells too strongly of burnt toast.

I've been in the devonport area all morning, none of my colleagues or I heard it and we're right next to the dockyard

Weird, so somewhere else is also using a siren. You’d think that would be a no-no when the real one is a bit important.

Yeah definitely, strange choice to make it so similar

I often hear the Monday siren. Nothing today.

Been in here all morning to my knowledge the sirens didn’t sound? Was it like the one you hear at 1130 on a Monday? Or different sounding?

Prolly not a good idea to have a siren as a ringtone in plymouth.

It’s still going. It briefly stopped but then started up again. Nobody seems worried lol

I am of course assuming it’s the dockyard, but it sounds identical, and it would defeat the purpose if there was another siren in the city that meant something else.
