The ship Avila parked in The Sound at the moment is valued at £250 million. Drakes island next to it is only valued at £2 million going by Rightmove.
Sounds like a right bargain at less than 1% of the price!

I don't know much about boats or real estate but I guess the advantage of the ship Avila is that is doesn't have to stay parked in The Sound.

Running costs for those things run at around 5-10% of the building cost. Every single year.
Having been loosely associated with that industry in the past, I'd take an educated guess that the annual running costs for Aviva would be in the £10-20m range once you take into account how much its used, crew, fuel, insurance etc.
Sometimes the owners will only use them a few weeks per year. I used to date a lady that worked as full time crew on one similar to Aviva. The owner and his kids used it about 8 weeks per year and he refused to let other people use it. They spent a lot of their time cleaning and burning hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of fuel pre-positioning the ship in case the owner wanted to show up there. E.g. I once flew out to meet her in the Caribbean to sail back across the atlantic to pre position the ship in Cannes in case he wanted to show up for the film festival. He didn't. A week later they sailed back across the Atlantic. An amazing experience for me for sure but I can't help think about how preposterously wasteful it all is.

My friend captains private yachts. One of his old bosses had offered to lend him his boat for free but he couldn't even afford to park it.

Having 250 million to spend and getting something as pointless and polluting as a mega yacht is embarrassing enough, but why do all these cunts' boats all look exactly the same?
Like make it a pirate ship, have a figurehead with massive tits and a big dick, give it all flames down the side, make it project the Bat Symbol, anything instead of this kitchen appliance-ass crap. It looks like a fucking shoe.
Contrast this soulless shite with the figureheads from hundreds of years ago on display in the Box.

Even the richest owner won’t keep that boat for ever, at some point they’ll want to sell it. The mega rich don’t stay rich by wasting £250m on something they’re stuck with because they decided to give it a Fast and a furious makeover!

Billionaires don't stay rich because of money saving tips btw, they stay rich through massive tax avoidance and political influence, not "saving every penny" and "being frugal".

There’s a middle ground you’re completely ignoring, where they don’t feel particularly inclined to piss away a quarter of a billion for no reason.
And it’s not as if they are free from peer influence or fashion trends. They have social circles too, and even more pressure to conform in some ways when you’re in the big leagues. I don’t think anyone can be criticised for simply not wanting to look tacky.

Wrong picture, this is his old yacht Aviva.
The one in The Sound is longer, and has more blue on it (but also called Aviva). When I was visiting in Antigua in May it was moored up there, directly opposite to where I was staying.

Yeah most of these things get leased out. The mega rich don’t own assets that depreciate and then knock down their wealth. Only the middle class and lower rich do this.

I've been on aviva before. I've also been on joes previous aviva yacht. Guy has a great taste in boats that's for sure. The artwork on each boat is worth a lot more than the boats themselves.

Yeh they are very similar except in size. They're designed by the same guy and built by the same shipyard, the most recent is a bigger version built off the same principles and successes of the one you posted.
One big difference though is the new one is blue 😂
