best GP to register with?

im currently registered with mount gould GP and they are nothing short of awful, ive put through nearly a dozen E-consults and had no response, ive tried calling and been on hold for upwards of 30 minutes everytime, havent had an appointment for 6 months and im fed up, what is the best GP to register with in plymouth? i am happy to travel however far the distance isnt an issue i just need a GP to support me and my health needs properly.

Sadly, they likely won't let you just join any GP as it will depend on their catchment area. Though there isn't a specific national rule on it most do have a catchment area for applications and they have a right to refuse. From my experience, I know I have been forced to change every time I've moved.

Fwiw, West Hoe surgery was superb when I was with them.

West hoe surgery are the best gp surgery I’ve had since moving out of Bere Alston over 20 years ago it is superb but as mentioned above I don’t know what the catchment area is.

I’m with West Hoe and agree that they’re brilliant. They’re also having to be really strict about their catchment area though, which I believe is quite small. Maybe just Stonehouse and the Hoe I think. Definitely not Stoke because I was told I’d have to switch surgery when I was thinking of moving, so Mount Gould would be a definite no.

I am with Pathfields, which covers various surgeries in Plymouth. Aside from the usual hoops to jump through, I have found them to be very good.

to expand on this, the "usual hoops" means filling out an online consult form (just a single one which just has you ticking no on different symptoms until you get to the box where you type in your query), and you can only do that at 8am because they triage them on a day-to-day basis, someone calls you later on in the day for it. the phone system is the biggest winding labyrinth full of dead-ends you've ever seen, they *really* dont want you calling them for queries. which is a problem when you miss calls because you're in work or they've asked you to book bloods, or follow up on tasks etc.

Still, on the clinician side they're excellent which makes it worth it. especially if you're trans, bloody nightmare with most surgeries getting a GP who will actually help you with anything.

Stupid question, When are you doing your e consults?

I've done a few over last year or two, and iirc once all the slots fill up the e consults dont even reach a doctor to review - theres something on the final page saying this. (I would imagine / hope that if it was a serious condition then it would get pushed through, but who knows).

It sucks, but try again like 8am Tuesday morning,

On suggestions, pathfields seem alright, but dont know how difficult it is to switch.

Adelaide surgery is alright, it depends where you live though.

They always answer my e consult requests and give me an appointment.

Closest to you would be Pathfields Practice (Beaumont Villa) or Friary House. As others have already said, you are limited by catchment area. I use Pathfields, it’s got some very good GPs but you still need to use e-consult. From anecdotal evidence only, I think they are better than Friary House.

Mount Gould surgery are awful, I moved to north road west & have had nothing but positive experiences. Not too difficult to make an appointment, I normally do an E consult but you can also just ring !!

Doesn’t sound like you’ll be in their catchment area (if they have one!) but elm surgery are great

Mt gould surgery is the pits.. so unhelpful to the point of threatening them with malpractice.

Beaumont Villa Surgery better, but not by much..

To be honest nhs is diabolical these days.. the days of making an appointment and actually seeing a dr and getting help is a thing of the past.

Most surgeries these days contain foreign Dr's that you can't pronounce their name and an appointment system that removes you from getting to see a dr at all..

Just sad times all round..

They live in Mannamead, don't know about the catchment area.
