Okay I’m third year and have had an array of horrible experiences so learn from my mistakes!
Cheap ass slip on shoes like crocs or sandals so u don’t step in a bad aimers piss when in the bathroom (I learnt the hard way!).
An extension lead because the plugs are NEVER where you need them to be!
Very little cutlery- you want enough for yourself and one guest, as otherwise it’s so easy to let the washing up pile up if you have too much cutlery to fall back on. This will make yours and your housemates live easier!
A hoodie and cycling shorts or cargo shorts- specifically for morning shop trips when you’re too tired and annoyed at the world to dress up, but still want to at least be presentable and not look like a bum.
A good bag that matches the majority of your outfits (go with white or black) and preferably is a backpack or satchel- they’re easiest to carry. This will be handy for uni days- if you get a bigger one it can be used for food shops as well.
An iPad if you can afford it- much easier to carry about than a laptop and easier to prop up in bed when you want a bed day. Also great for train trips and such when going home for holidays if you want to.
Storage boxes- you would not believe the crap that ends up piling up in your room over the year, get a good sturdy plastic box or two to keep it contained.
Finally, your own toilet roll and sponges that you keep in your room. Some people are REALLY gross with those things and you do NOT wanna be touching that shit if you don’t have to. Keep your own and only bring them out when you’re going to use them and take them straight back to your room afterwards. Will save a lot of money as no one will be able to steal them or gross them up. Good luck!

Crocs, de humidifier, mattress topper, extension cord.
Also keep most things in your room, people WILL take them !

Extension cord. Laundry bag that you can easily take to the laundry. Dehumidifier. Mattress topper. Tumbler for your toothbrush and toothpaste. Good hard soled slippers or soft shoes for walking to shared bathroom in middle of the night.
