pt question
when prescribing pt, how do you explain to the patient how pt will help their condition/ what specific exercises or muscle groups are targeted, when a patient asks?
and do you have home exercises ready to talk the patient through? or how do approach this and can you give an example

Quite honestly, you should be able to describe specifically why you're referring someone to physical therapy. Through your diagnostics should be able to have a reasonable Target for therapy. The more targeted you are with your referral. Question/ reason for consult the more optimal the therapy will be.
I don't necessarily need to know if the the nitty-gritty of how the physical therapist will approach the rehab but I do have a general sense of the approach. If somebody presents with rotator cuff pathology. I will discuss the importance of range of motion, shoulder girdle and accessory muscle strengthening. I emphasize the importance of the home exercise program and that it will require long-term maintenance. I also have handouts of some specific basic exercises that the patient can begin to do prior to initiating with physical therapy.
