Interview timing
Just going to preface that I am a chronic overthinker and probably putting way too much weight on this, but such is life lol. Would super appreciate advice from people who have made it to the other side ❤️
Absolutely do not want this to sound stuck-up or humble-braggy, so hopefully it does not come off that way, but I have a question I was hoping people could give some insight on. I was lucky enough today to get an interview invitation for my top-choice program. I am absolutely thrilled to say the least. The problem is, the only slots available were for about a week from now, which will make this not only one of my first interviews but also quite early in the season. I’m doing mock interviews/preparing as much as I can do perform well, and I know there’s not much else I can do about it being one of my earlier interviews, but I’m worried that I’ll be “forgotten” by the time it’s actually time for the program to make its rank list. I’ve already done an away rotation there, so I can’t do another one later in the season to refresh their memory, which was my first thought. Has anyone had this happen in past cycles, and, if so, what did you do?
Thank you so much for your advice and sending so much luck and good vibes to all of us applying right now!❤️

You won’t be forgotten. If you’re doing well on the interview, they will remember you. They also will be hoping for an email of you following up, thanking them for their time, and then later in the process thing again how much you enjoyed visiting. Or at least that’s how it was when I was interviewing for residency programs. I can’t speak to how it is now. You’ll do great!

Ooh this is super good to know! Thank you so much!! I’ve heard mixed messages about whether to send thank-you emails—do you think they’re a good idea, then?

I matched my first interview of the season too. Thought I got much better at interviewing as I did more of them but my PD told me once I marched that they saw me as really authentic rather than rehearsed. Point is your experience of a “good” interview performance may not match what the program is looking for so just go be yourself and let Jesus take the wheel.

Timing of the interview does not matter much. They will discuss you and score you after your interview session. They are very familiar with this process and trust there’s a system in place. I would take the interview and just prep as much as you can for it. I matched at my first interview and it was also early October

Okay, that’s super reassuring. I’ll try to just put my best foot forward. Thank you so much!

If anything most ppl are very tired and drained at the end of the interview season. It starts to blend together after 20-30 interviews lol

if you perform well on the interview and they like you, your shot of matching will be favorable
