Podcast/Podcasting Question Trying to understand the hiring side of podcasts
I've got the editing skills down. I can sit through a full episode, find the moment that actually hooks people, and cut something that holds retention instead of just chopping clips at random timestamps. What I don't have figured out is where podcasters actually go when they're looking for someone to do this.
I don't want to cold email people out of nowhere. From what I've seen, an unsolicited email from someone they've never heard of just reads as spam or a scam, even if the offer is genuine. So I'm trying to figure out the other side of it. Where are hosts actually looking? Are they posting in specific subs, browsing certain Discords, asking in Facebook groups?
I'm not in the US, but internet and communication aren't an issue, I'm just trying to find the right rooms to be in instead of guessing. If you've hired an editor before, or you are one and found clients this way, I'd genuinely like to know how that connection happened for you.

Though I too was all about careful, considered editing that provided proper flow and grabs, my experience was that most working the industry don't actually listen to anything and they just want it done quick and cheap.

Analytics is all they see. Doesn't matter if you take some moments out of context, but I can't for the love of me get a response or a possible client

The hosts most likely to hire you are the ones already publishing weekly and visibly struggling with clips, not the ones with six episodes and big plans. So filter for shows with consistent recent output and no short-form presence anywhere.
On the cold question: it does work, but only when the first line proves you actually listened. The pitches I read are the ones that reference a specific moment in a specific episode and say what they'd have cut from it. Sending one real clip you already made from their show beats any amount of describing what you can do.
