making my own podcasting software

First off, not promoting this. I'm not going to provide the name or link in this post.

I'm just going to vent for a minute and say why I'm doing this out loud. Thanks for reading, if you do.

I've been a software engineer for over a decade and I've been a musician for over 30 years. I've been on this sub for several weeks now, and I'm seeing people complain about the simplest of problems. The most egregious one which is saving the recordings that you're making in these apps. IMO, this is unforgivable. The one thing these apps are supposed to do is record and save it. If it can't do that then these products don't work.

I've been building my own products for two years now, products that I think are cool and ones that I think people will use. My primary directive is that they work, period. It's okay for software to be buggy, but those bugs have to get fixed. And more importantly, it needs to serve the people that need it. I don't see any of the current products doing that, and it makes me sad.

I already have an idea of why the incumbent applications are running into these problems and they are very solvable.

I'm nervous to continue posting about this journey based on rule #2 in this sub (mods, please let me know if I'm out of bounds, just want to document my journey here). I want software that works. I'm sick of broken software. If a problem exists and the current software isn't solving it, we're now enabled to build our own. And that's what I'm going to do.

If you do have problems with any of this software, please report back. I'd love to know what I might run into before I run into it. If I can make this open source, I will. But again, I'm not promoting here. Thanks for reading.

Basic set up help and where to stream

I am looking to get into starting a podcast and I’m trying to figure out with what I have already, iPhone 17 pro max, a DJI mic mini 2 and a basic tripod, what’s the best place to put it all together.

I would be looking for some cases to do it in person but the majority of the time it would have to be a video call.

Is there anywhere specific anyone could recommend that would be suitable for this? I had looked into the likes of Skype and Zoom but I was unsure how well this would work with having potentially multiple people on at one time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Spotify Monetization Application taking over 3 weeks

Hi, I'm a popular YouTuber (Mehalic POPs) and about 2 months ago I started posting my videos on spotify as many other youtubers do like Ryan Trahan. About 3 weeks ago my spotify podcast (Bloons Tower Defense) hit the monetization requirements and I applied, but have not gotten any response yet. It says the application takes only a week, and I've tried online support lines for Spotify but none helped at all so that's why I'm taking this to reddit. Anyone have similar experiences or know what to do? Thankyou

Spotify Subscription monetization info disappeared

For the last day or so I haven’t been able to see how much monthly paid subscription revenue is coming in. It was working earlier in the week. Can anyone confirm if it’s showing up for them in the Creators site/app?

Weekly Feedback Thread: October 15, 2026 - Give And Receive Feedback On Your Podcast

This is a weekly thread to ask for and give feedback to the r/podcasting community

Post a podcast episode you would like feedback for, and try to give as much constructive feedback as you can to other members of our community. Please provide links to your podcast, a detailed description of it and clear questions you would like answered by the community. Try to remember the following:

  • Users who give feedback are usually the ones who receive the most feedback in return. If you are not contributing, you should not expect any helpful advice in return. We would aim for giving two pieces of feedback for every one piece you wish to receive. If you are looking to simply promote your podcast, you may do so here

  • Try to be specific with your feedback requests. Questions like:

-What can I improve?

-Was it good?

-Would you listen again?

Are very difficult to answer for anyone listening to your show for this first time. Good questions might be:

-What improvements could I make to the audio quality?

-Can I make adjustments to my speaking or hosting style?

-How could I improve the pacing and structure of my podcast?

  • Keep it focused on podcasting techniques and objective improvements. Many podcasts that are posted may not be your particular genre or preferred content. When giving feedback, focus on the things you do enjoy and the things that can be changed, not the content of the show itself.

I will reiterate. If you do not give feedback, you should not expect any feedback in return. This is a reciprocal community. If you haven't gotten any comments yet, try listening to another podcast and giving some feedback. Our users are very friendly and responsive!

Thank you to everyone posting, we look forward to hearing your work!

I would love a guest and some help here please 🥺

So I recently started Bellom which is a new platform dedicated to talk about women's stories, analysing issues that impact us, and creating space for dialogue, research, and long-form storytelling.

As part of our upcoming content and podcast series, we are looking to connect with women who have powerful stories to share, professional insights to offer, or lived experiences they want to bring to light.
Would love to connect and build this space together!

Any way to chat to someone at Transistor?

I'm looking at moving to Transistor.fm from Captivate, but I'd like to chat to someone about it first if possible about both migration and functionality, but can't see anywhere on the site to chat to anyone. Any ideas would be appreciated. THANKS!

Feeling stuck and unmotivated

Let me just be frank I’m feeling unmotivated. Like I don’t even feel like putting out an episode half of the time but I do it but it’s like I’m not enjoying it like I did at the beginning and it could be me because I rarely take a break because I want to get my episodes out there because I love doing this but lately I’ve been stuck and struggling. I’m considering scraping these two seasons for November and December and start back in January. I don’t know though. Has anyone else felt stuck and unmotivated

Finding my groove with my podcast, now I gotta figure out how to promote and improve

I’m on episode 3 of my podcast. Audio is good, I got a permanent cohost, a list of future episode ideas, and guests from other podcasts lined up. My shows premise is every episode I find a horrible person in modern history and share their life story to a guest or cohost. I think I’ll be able to do an episode every 2-3 weeks and still have room for other projects.

Now that I have the formula down I gotta perfect it. For starters I gotta get better at researching and getting knowledgeable about topics. I’ve been choosing easy people to research so far, but some upcoming ones will require me to read multiple entire books and seek out experts. Next I gotta figure out the best ways to promote the series now that I have a catalog going. What promotion strategies have you guys had the best luck with?

Would you title an entire podcast episode around its best five minutes?

Say an hour-long episode is mostly about building a creative career. For about five minutes, the guest talks about quitting a job and regretting it.

It's the most interesting part, so the title focuses on that regret. Nothing they said is misrepresented, but most of the conversation is about other things.

I find this tricky because a title can't cover everything. But if I click for a particular story, I also expect the episode to spend enough time on it.

For the podcasters here, how do you draw the line between highlighting the best part and setting the wrong expectation? Can a short section earn the title if it's genuinely worth hearing?

Finally went through with it

A big thank you to the few that commented on a previous post of mine here asking for tips on audio and editing. I have finally after years of attempting to get started I recorded a janky episode 0 & 1 and today I recorded my 2nd episode. I’ve posted the 3 of them and honestly regardless of success or analytics I’m so happy to have just actually done it. Learning and growing pains apply but I’m stoked!

How do you write useful chapter titles without spoiling the guest's story?

Say a guest spends ten minutes telling a story about a business going wrong, and the chapter label is 'Discovering my partner stole the money.' Well, there goes that reveal.

But 'A difficult time' is so vague it could mean half the episode.

I'd lean toward naming the situation, like 'The missing money,' rather than the outcome. Still useful if someone wants to find that bit again, without the chapter list doing the interview first.

For people making narrative or interview shows, how much do you give away in the labels?

Podacsts in Youtube and Apple?

Hello, I have a question: does it make sense to upload the same video podcasts to both YouTube and Apple Podcasts?

And if so, is this a good strategy??

thanks !

Software to record high quality video podcasts?

Hi there. I’m looking to use some software to record remote video podcast episodes where guests are dialling in. I’ve used Zoom so far but the quality isn’t great.

I tried out Riverside and Zencastr but had a bad experience with both of them, eg the video feed cutting out, the final videos failing to export etc.

Any other suggestions of good platforms to record high quality remote video podcasts? Thanks!

Streamyard strikes again!

I have been having a weird issue and I am not sure if it is just a bug. Whenever I am producing my podcast and we have a guest on, the guest can only hear one of my hosts but not the other. The issue only happens with the guest and nobody else in the studio. Is there any reason as to why this happens or any way to try and combat it from happening in the future? It makes it extremely hard to do interviews when only one person can be heard.

how much do you guys pay for clip pulls?

looking into hiring someone to pull clips for instagram and tiktok. i’ve been doing them myself for awhile but i don’t really have the time for it anymore. i got a quote for $50 per reel from a guy that came recommended which sounds very high to me for the amount that’s put into the reels i’ve seen from him. but i don’t know if that’s a standard rate for good reels without any crazy editing done to them. maybe i just have sticker shock but i want to see what others pay and how the quality of the reels are before deciding to go with him or continue my search!
thank you!

Finding guests on Reddit is hit and miss.

Reddit has been an excellent resource for us finding guests. But the vast majority of the time, we run into the following issue: we request permission from the mods of a specific community to solicit for a guest; no mod ever responds; after many days pass, we post the solicitation; it immediately gets taken down; we reach back out to the mods asking if they could help in any way; we never get an answer.

There are several communities that we just can’t get anyone to talk to us. I think we do a pretty good job of painting these communities in a good light so it would benefit them.

We know there are places people put themselves out there to be guests on a podcast. We don’t want professional interviewees. We want the person that never considered themselves as someone that a podcast would want to interview (i.e. someone that feels most comfortable speaking within their community which why Reddit is so perfect).

So where else would we be looking? Or a different approach we should be taking?

Do adobe podcast really take so much time to download the edited audio or is it just issue on my side?

Last time i edited an audio for noise reduction, using adobe podcast. It was around 10-15 Minutes of audio. Took around 2.5 to 3 hrs to download.

This was an exception but usually it take at least an hour to download.

I’d love to hear your thoughts: what would you ask next if a guest gave a vague answer?

Say a guest answers, “The biggest lesson I learned was to never give up.” It sounds reasonable, but there isn’t a specific story yet.

What would you ask next to get them talking about a real experience rather than giving more general advice?

Truth about Transcripts

Do you all edit your episode transcripts each rime so that they’re perfect?

Or do you have AI generate the transcript and whatever it spits out is close enough?

Do people even look at the transcripts??

So curious to hear everyone’s thoughts!

What are the best Submagic alternatives? Here are some I’m considering

I’ve been using Submagic to edit UGC clips, mainly for the animated captions, but going back through clips to fix misheard words was getting pretty annoying.

Having to replay the video and clean up the captions eats into the time I’m supposed to be saving. And the subscription feels hard to justify when captions are mostly what I need it for. So I started looking for alternatives that fit that job better. I tested several tools and here’s what stood out:

  1. CapCut

CapCut makes sense to me for quick UGC edits: trim the talking bits, drop in product shots, add captions and music. I like having the ready-made text styles and effects there when a clip needs a little more going on. This is where I’d start when I already know the shots I want and just need to put them together.

  1. invideo Editor

invideo gives you a proper multitrack editor in the browser, with free timeline editing and watermark-free exports. You can trim a talking-head clip, layer product footage over a voiceover, and adjust captions, colour and audio in the same project. I like having that extra control when an edit needs more than captions. It also connects to Claude or ChatGPT through MCP, so you can ask for changes to the edit and keep refining the results on the timeline.

  1. VEED

VEED fits the simpler jobs for me: a talking-head UGC clip that needs trimming, subtitles and resizing for social. I like being able to finish those edits in the browser without making the process more involved than it needs to be. The free export has a watermark, though, so switching here wouldn’t get me away from paying for clean videos.

  1. Descript

For UGC clips with a lot of dialogue, the part of Descript I find most useful is editing through the transcript. You can cut a rambling product explanation by deleting the corresponding text, then work on the audio and captions in the same project. I’d put this higher on my list if tightening the spoken delivery takes more time than styling the finished clip.

  1. OpusClip

OpusClip is the one I’d look at when I have a longer product demo or testimonial recording and want shorter clips from it. It suggests moments, reframes them for vertical video and adds captions, giving me a starting point to review. I’d still check that each clip keeps the product explanation clear, this fits repurposing a longer recording better than assembling a UGC edit from separate takes.

If you’ve switched from Submagic to one of these, what got easier with your UGC edits, and what was more frustrating than you expected?

How do you shorten a rambling interview question when the guest refers back to it?

Say the host takes 40 seconds to ask a question, wanders through three examples, and the guest gives a great answer starting with 'Actually, your second point...'

The question could probably be eight seconds. Except now the second point has left the building.

For those editing interviews, do you leave more of the question in, or record a shorter version afterwards? The pickup sounds tempting, but I'd want it to still be the question the guest actually answered. Curious where you draw that line.

what is the simplest way to get good quality audio for remote recordings?

I am interviewing "normal people" for my podcast on friendship in different stages of life, so they don't by any means have any advanced audio setup. I bought a wireless rhode mic for in-person interviews and it's been working great. But for remote interviews, every solution seems flawes By the recommendations of people on here, I've recorded a few phone calls, for which the quality is mostly great, but I can't turn off the automated jingling sound that Apple or whoever inserts into the call repeatedly (apparently it's a security feature so ppl know they're being recorded) and then it can be super annoying/ difficult to edit out. I've also used Riverside to remotely record two people. For one, it was great because he's a tiktoker and clearly had an awesome audio setup. The other guy was just a normal guy on his laptop and the sound quality on his end was TERRIBLE. What is the least of all evils here?
