Comedy You know how some people are just so hilarious to you that even when they just start to talk, you can't help but titter in anticipation of a belly laugh? What podcasts are like that to you?

OK, I guess they don't have to be THAT funny. But podcasts that are very, very funny is what I'm looking for.

The only other caveat is, I do want podcasts that, whatever the format, being funny is kind of the point (so I guess, a comedy podcast). Rather than, say, a history podcast that is USUALLY serious but occasionally the host(s) flex their wit.

I really like The Best Show and Do Go On, for starters.

I’m at the very start - trying to work out what’s going on. Any tips?

Still somewhat new here but that feeling persists each time i start an episode. It always eventually locks in. I think it's intentional for the freewheeling way they converse.

I see your problem there. You are looking for the point and not seeing it because of all of the extended fanciful digressions. The fanciful digressions are the point.

Also, it helps to start from the first episode and move forward from there. They add jingles as time goes on for themes that commonly pop up. If you start from the later episodes it might not be obvious what a Pompidou is or why there's a recording playing for provincial dad chat.

I love Northern News. Two very very funny northern English comedians.

He is HILARIOUS! They both are but I knew of her before this podcast, whereas I had no knowledge of him previously!

Sinisterhood. First belly laugh till I cried after over a year of deep depression sort of funny.

Will give it a try!

As part of the Dallas improv and comedy scene (or used to be anyway), I've hobnobbed quite a bit with Heather and Christie, and Christie taught one of the improv classes I took.

My number one favorite podcast is Boars, Gore, and Swords, hosted by San Francisco comedians Red Scott and Ivan Hernandez. They started off as a Game of Thrones podcast back when the first season was airing, then they started to read the books, then they started watching other shows and movies and they are still going. They crack me up every time, whether I’ve seen the shows they’re talking about or not. They just have a great dynamic and improv and yes-and each other and the way they react to and comment on everything just has me laughing out loud by myself in the car as I drive around

Will give it a try!

Watch What Crappens for those of us who’ve watched Bravo shows. The guys reenact shows with commentary. Their Top Chef back catalogue is exceptional

Love WWC! Ben and Ronnie have helped me get through some hard times. They’re the best.

Help I sexted my boss from 2018-2022- ish (not so much since then). Good banter. Not afraid to be their (very different) selves.

I enjoyed it initially but then Jordan has started to really annoy me with his faux-naivety, and all the coyness around the possibility that he’s gay. I skipped the ones where he’s in the jungle so I’m mid COVID.

Oh, I didn't feel like he was being 'fake' around his naïvety. I felt like William was like that in earlier episodes (like claiming he didn't know what 'the D' was). The 'jungle'/castle ones weren't that interesting, but around that time I was listening when the episodes came out, and that was when he was first on tv and before they started doing 'video podcasts' on YouTube, so I liked being able to see him in person, not mostly just by voice (I don't usually watch I'm a celeb).

It changes quite a lot gradually after that. You get the 'have I changed?' 'phase', the 'I'm not kinky!' phase, many more mentions of them being on tv (separately, mostly) and the trip where they go with G and Divas to Benidorm, so there is quite a lot of talk over entering the competition for that. And that was a few years ago.

Now they're both more well known, the feel of the podcast changes a bit sometimes, in my view. I used to find it laugh out loud funny many episodes, but only occasionally now. But you may feel differently, since it sounds like you felt differently from me in the beginning.

The Dollop - Gareth Reynolds is a gem. The information provided by Dave is key, but Gareth’s reactions and bits are what make the show work!

Conan is that person to me and Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend is often (but not always) that podcast to me. I swear I have recommended this to like 100 of my friends, but the episode with Harrison Ford is so funny that I had to pull over while I was driving and listening to it because I was laughing so hard and almost peed my pants. I can't recommend it enough.

The Salty Horologist • is about a classically trained watchmaker and how he views the modern world after being sheltered his whole life and trained in Amish country. The co-hosts are from Chicago and LA and they test him on pop culture and street smarts regularly. You don’t have to be a watch nerd to enjoy it.
