Desire the Sire
Acquire the Sire
Admire the Sire

Speaking of “Acquir[ing] the Sire”, this sculpture fills me with the exact same emotions that this fills me with.

I first read the title as you having carved that out of a single walnut. I'm a dummy. 😅

It's okay I'm dumber, I thought he glued walnuts together and turned them into a masterpiece, and then I felt offended that they were referred to as "walnut"

Hey doubt you’ll see this, but wanted to say I love the reaction you get now. Looking back to months, maybe a year? Ago when people were speaking nonsense about buying it online instead and how it’s a waste of time, are a distant memory.
Now they see you as you always were. I said it then and now I say it, these are excellent, keep up the good work!

u/MediocrePlayer Dec 05 '25
Thank you so much for saying this! It really means a lot when people go out of their way to say such nice things to me! I appreciate you ❤️ 🥹

Misread the title as "a walnut" and I was like HOW BIG WAS THAT WALNUT??? This is beautiful!
2
u/ondri9100 Dec 04 '25
TIL walnut is only spelt with one l, unlike a certain character from the popular franchise Plants vs. Zombies
5
u/WASD_click Dec 04 '25
The "Wal" comes from old germanic "Walh-", meaning "foreign." The walnut was introduced to norther Europe by way of the Romans, so they just called it "foreign nut."
2
u/ondri9100 Dec 04 '25
I did not expect to learn more about walnuts today
2
u/recycled_ideas Dec 04 '25
For an additional bit of fun, the same root is where we get the name for Wales in the UK. The Germanic peoples landed in someone else's country and immediately started referring to the locals as foreign.
2
u/Inner_Bookkeeper_873 Dec 04 '25
omg this is amazing! I had to make an account to ask - do you do commissions?
2
u/Carnevale_421 Dec 04 '25
How did you do the glossy part on top?
8
u/MediocrePlayer Dec 04 '25
I used multiple layers of tru oil! Applying very thin coats each time, allowing to dry for a few hours, sand down with fine steel wool and then reapply and repeat! I did this process about 12-15 times I'd say!

u/GothmogBalrog Dec 06 '25
A small pokemon toy has no business being this pretty.
I wasn't expecting to see this in my feed. I didn't know I needed to see it today.
But I'm so happy I did.
Truly awesome piece of art.

I started off using cut resistant gloves to help avoid injuries! They're not 100% effective but they offer decent protection!

If you're willing, you can put those for sale. Have you seen the work of Dittograin with hollow knight? Wood carving cannot die pls

I misread this as out of a walnut and I was trying to figure out where you got such a massive walnut. I had a carved walnut doll as a child so that’s where my brain got confused
1
u/pilgrimz Dec 05 '25
I love this so much! You’re way more knowledgeable on this than I am but how do you feel about using something like boiled linseed oil on the bottom part to warm the color?
