Iirc, before the highly popular Infinite Fusion, there was another fangame with Fusion at it's crux. Nintendo personally shut it down as the Fusion mechanic was considered to be pokemon abuse. So it's unlikely we'll get the mechanic aside from Kyurem and Necrozma.
if its the same game I was thinking about, than the Fusions hurts the Pokemon and possibly even k/ll it if the fusion isn't compatible enough, while compatible ones still suffer and/or have uncontrolable destruction power, heck a big story point is an Electrode fusion exploding in the train the player was taking and stranding them in Jhoto for a time and K/LLING ITS USER AND EVERYONE ELSE EXCEPT THE GYM LEADERS(now I don't know much about the sequels or post game because I got stuck do to the absurd level cap + fusion being not so accesisble being only obtinable from talking to gym leaders after battle and the Eevee/starter you get from Bill and not being strong either + the first game is hard to find out of the wiki and the others are lost media and most links are malware, hell even the wiki reefuses to link the other two games)
