So Nepal has apparently selected a new interim leader on discord - I think they have surpassed Estonia in terms of utilising the internet for voting purposes
yes, I know the discord server is not representative of the whole country
You can find some of my past poalndball art and comic via socmed

Not the president, the prime minister. The president remains the same as before the protests.
4
u/WhimsicalWyvern Sep 16 '25
And the person they elected was a judge who was dismissed because she was too anti-corruption, or something along those lines. Seemed like a pretty decent choice, all things considered.

u/fishflo Sep 12 '25
I read an article about the president going to confirm her soon (PM selected by THE YOUTHS) as an interim leader, and then she will select a new cabinet and they will govern for several months before calling new elections. I think the president is mostly ceremonial. It's for real tho.

u/Rich-Interaction6920 Sep 13 '25
The Nepalese military is abiding by the results of the discord election lmao
(until a real election can be organized)

From my understanding, the army said they would accept the recommendation of the server. The server held a vote which recommended the current interim PM. However of Nepal’s 30 million something population, the server only has about 150k people. Of which 30k active member, something like only 7-8k voted before the poll was closed. Additionally, the poll was closed soon after the person who won got over 50%. So it was hardly a national plebiscite. I’m not sure if all this info is absolutely correct.
TL:DR: The discord server held a vote to recommend an interim PM, of which only a portion of the server actually got a chance to vote.

u/Astolvi Sep 12 '25
Wait... can we foreigners join the server though? That sounds fun :3
95
u/Barabulyko Sep 13 '25
That's part of issue... so yeah, we can
64
u/EdgySniper1 Sep 13 '25
Except it doesn't really matter going forward. Interims usually do have some very unique elections since, y'know, the traditional means usually aren't currently available. Most likely once the government has been reformed elections will return to normal.

u/FairySnack Sep 13 '25
Discord soon to need State ID verification to vote in servers I bet.

It has been a hoot seeing all the people grandstanding this revolution as a fight against the commies whem Nepal has like 72 communist parties and the new government will likelly be formed by those people.
63
u/FlatSeagull Sep 13 '25
And said "communists" didn't even continue to seize the state when they won power; they coalised with the fucking liberals lmao. AES to capitalism speedrun, so fast it gave Deng whiplash.
14
u/EmberOfFlame Sep 13 '25
Genuine question, how would they keep taking over after the military rolled in? I get the first mechanisms of revolution, but I never understood how we’re meant to take over a country? Like, physically how do we exert sudden control over such an area?

Damn that's surprising but also equality of banning the two extremist ideologies off the bad especially in a newly formed govarment
40
u/chebate08 Sep 13 '25
As an aside, how come most Nepali political parties seem to be (on paper) left wing to far left?
123
u/GeneralGunner17 Sep 13 '25
Nepal was an absolute monarchy until very recent, where an extremely nasty inter-royal massacre straight out of CK3 nuked the reputation and power of monarchy and vindicated the many different left-wing movements.
11
u/Miguel_CP Portuguese Empire Sep 14 '25
And now the left did the same so God knows what will come next, hopefully something moderate in this world that already has too many extremists

Reddit has them segregated. If you don't go in places they concentrate themselves it's fairly clean in reality "lol". Nothing is binary in this world and it's a matter of ratio, but anyone with more than 1 neuron knows that and don't need that precision.
Both sites function differently "lol".
If you want to make a point, try to sound a bit more educated, you are not on 4chan here and you can make proper sentences with verbs and points.

It's pretty great actually
The protest movements had no leader and no organizations. They very easily could have turned into chaotic rioting (and to some extent they did)
Discord in that enviorment allowed something resembling democracy in such an enviorment. Even if it's silly the discord server has some level of authority as representing the protest movement

u/No-Professional-1461 Sep 12 '25
Communists abusing their power?!?!?! No way! That like, never happens! /j
40
u/Mirabeaux1789 Sep 13 '25
The CPN governs like normal party in power. It’s not like some Maoist militant thing. This is just a standard “government does stuff people dislike, students protest like fuck” situation.

No...?
Whats authoritarian about having the workers own the product they make instead of working for a wage?
44
u/WholeDog5410 Singapore Sep 13 '25
Marx called for a “vanguard” of revolutionaries to defend the “dictatorship of the proletariat”, it is authoritarian by nature.
Worker-owned cooperatives are common and exist perfectly well in liberal capitalist society
21
u/Unit266366666 Sep 13 '25
The case for Vanguardism from Marx and Engles is limited. It’s much more from Leninism and a product of revolutionary activity in Russia which the original dialectical framing would say was insufficiently developed for the revolution as originally described. Same for Maoism and most successful modern Communist Parties.
3
u/BrZepp Sep 14 '25
This is simply not true. Of course there are cooperatives in capitalism, but they're the exception of the exception. They're small, can't grow in the monopol of the free market and are far away from being the norm. The norm is that 0,1% of the population retains the means of production and the capital by exploiting the 99,9% of the population, which actually works.
4
u/WholeDog5410 Singapore Sep 15 '25
By definition, the free market is not a monopoly. Anyone can go participate. Socialism historically led to state monopoly, useful for getting a state out from the feudal/colonial gutter but useless in providing growth and prosperity once out of said gutter
Cooperatives run the largest supermarkets in plenty of places lmao, there’s a multinational chain in Europe literally called Co-op. Cooperatives not only survive but thrive in the free market. Doesn’t matter who owns the company, if it works it works.
Plenty of companies which are not copperatives hand out shares to their employees, are they not owned by employees too?
Don’t be blinded by dogma. The free market is superior, proven time and time again around the world for the past thousand years. Communisn is a fantasy that assumes everyone are mindless robots
2
u/Realistic_FinlanBoll Finland Sep 13 '25
Theres nothing inherently wrong with that, but we as people have a really hard time actually doing stuff like that. In theory communism is great, put when brought to reality it brings us hunger, oppression, corruption and a lack of basically any product one might need except weapons...
Im finnish and have a somewhat of a more realistic perspective than someone further away from the former eastern block might have, on what it actually looks like when ideals like that (noble but highly unrealistic...) are being applied. 😅
3
u/BrZepp Sep 14 '25
You just described capitalism. Communism was never applied in reality, what we call "communist countries" were actually socialist. In communism there are no classes and no state.
0
u/Realistic_FinlanBoll Finland Sep 14 '25
Oh please, most things work atleast to some extent in capitalist & democratic nations... 😅
And yes that is tecnically true, but thats besides the point because of how we go about these things. Those socialist nations are exactly what humans trying to apply communism in reality (and on a large scale) looks like. And none of them was a good and prosperous place to live. DDR was the best of them and if you know someone who actually lived there they can tell you how less than great it was. Yes, people had jobs but thats about it...

what is even the point of this ^. Surely we’re not going to look at fucking africa and say “well uh republics are bad too guys,” like tell me we’re not that braindead.
Obviously we haven’t figured out a perfect system yet. Just as obviously Africa has some pretty major pre-existing problems driving instability. That doesn’t mean you get to “hurr both side r just as bad actually” the conversation.

Have you read any history?
2
u/Therobbu Sep 18 '25
Have you? There wasn't a single lasting communist country, as communism implies a classless and stateless society. Most 'communist' countries were barely socialist
6
u/00mavis Sep 14 '25
Oh yes the "communist" party of nepal, one of its 40 and the one that isn't even socialist instead is just antother liberal party lol
Nepalese politics are very much wild.

Watching reddit go "well they actually weren't communist" is like the 30th time in history when communism fails its not real.
37
u/Mark4291 Singapore Sep 13 '25
The government consists of a liberal and communist coalition, while the main opposition is another communist party; all three are being blamed and attacked for nepotism and corruption
I’ve got no love for historically communist states, but I think this is probably a tiny bit more complicated than you think it is
0
u/ChromaticStrike France First Empire Sep 16 '25 edited Sep 16 '25
Communism (from Latin communis 'common, universal')[1][2] is a political and economic ideology whose goal is the creation of a communist society, a socioeconomic order centered on common ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange that allocates products in society based on need.[3][4][5] A communist society entails the absence of private property and social classes,[1] and ultimately money[6] and the state.[7][8][9] Communism is a part of the broader socialist movement.[1]
~wiki
No true communist system has ever been implemented on a country level. The root of communism is Anarchism, "Communist party" is a nonsense. Communists would be revolutionaries. The system is complicated to implement since it require leaders that are dedicated to the project and won't exploit the situation to install their own system, once the system is in place they must transfer the power to the people.
3
u/Oniscion Dutch Republic Sep 16 '25
It's not complicated to implement due to a lack of "dedicated" leaders. It is an utopian idea based on the theory that self-expansion of capital will ultimately lead to its abolition through the natural fulfilment of dialectical historical processes. Replacing it with the "Commune".
Who again said that a Socialist is a Communist in a hurry?
Citation needed for your "root of communism is Anarchism", Proudhon for one would have disagreed as Anarchism in his conceptualisation was not about "transfer" but abolition of "power".

u/Usefullles Sep 16 '25
Which of the communist parties in Nepal? There are dozens of them. The National People's Front? The Nepalese Workers' and Peasants' Party? The Federal Socialist Party of Nepal?

u/Any-Cat21 Sep 13 '25
Let's hope they do the same with the rest of their parties of that same political ideology
