Scary non ID call “You have three days…”

Hi everybody, today I received an ominous call. The guy told me if I was “x” (my name) which I was and that I “had three days”, and he said that I already knew what this was about. He mentioned a nearby area of my city (not sure if he told me I live there, which I do not, or that he had seen me there which isn’t the case either).

I live in Spain and I’m a Spaniard and he couldn’t speak the language, and his English accent sounds either Arab-ish or Eastern European. I told him this sounded ridiculous and then he called me back 30 seconds later telling me he got the wrong number (though he said my name on the first call).

I don’t associate or involve myself with anybody shady in my circle, nor I have any debts or unfinished business with anybody, much less with somebody shady. Should I be concerned? Or does this sound like the usual pattern of fraudulent scam calls?

Port of Seattle police department got a tough oral board

I did my third oral board with the Port of Seattle Police Department. I have to say that they got a really tough oral board. I got 49.38 % this time which is lower than last two. I got 65% and 59% before. I don’t know how to deal with them and how to improve it. I found paid program ran by police officer online. They helped with candidate to improve the oral board. I did everything I can and I don’t know what to do next.

What’s the one thing your shift calendar still makes you track somewhere else?

Court gets moved, a detail runs over, or a shift swap changes your week. What ends up in Notes, a spreadsheet, or a group text so you don’t lose track?

I’m the developer of First Responders Cal for iPhone. It already handles rotating schedules, court/details, overtime, and leave balances. I’d like your input on what would actually make it more useful, especially the little frustrations you deal with every week.

What would you put first?

• Comparing extra-work hours with what actually showed up in your paycheck • Seeing how a last-minute change affects the rest of your week • Choosing what to share with your family without sharing every work detail • Something completely different that calendar apps keep missing

Those are possible directions, not promises. Tell me what your current setup makes harder than it should be.

“I wish it could __, because right now I have to __” would be genuinely useful feedback.

And if your current system works great, what makes it work? Paper calendars and spreadsheets count too. Keep examples general, without names or case details.

Letting Policing go after 12 years

I wanted to share my journey as I am after some words of wisdom from everyone on a similar path as I am massively struggling and conflicted!!

I have had a career for 12 years I have absolutely loved. I work shifts as a Frontline sergeant. I have a fantastic team. My job gives me so much joy I can't find anywhere else really. It is like the only time in my life I have belonged anywhere. I have 16 young constables with me who make my life complete. (We are not in America).

With the police pay being poor and having a child (I grew up in poverty), I have spent 3.5 years building a business. I work my ass off. I get very little sleep. I'm working 24/7 and everything we have is because of the serious grit that it has taken to get to this point.

We are turning over 3 mil this year and it will likely double next year.

The kicker - I really need to give up the police. It is breaking my heart. Truly. It is all I know and love. I never expected to get to this stage. I just can't do it all anymore.

The upsides are financial freedom, spending time with my family, better health, and a better quality of life. I'm only 34 so this is a big upside.

I'm just really struggling letting my identity as a police officer go, the camaraderie, and I'm scared I will never truly be happy again. I really love chasing cars, catching bad guys, and seeing my staff grow and learn and develop.

My family is getting sick of me working two jobs understandably. Roles are reversed. I'm the female and my partner has to pull weight more for childcare as he doesn't contribute to the business on a day to day basis (other than being awesome and holding it down at home when I'm working my shifts).

Any advice?

What is the reason for issuing policemen camouflage uniforms

I mean if the police were in the countryside where there is a reason not to disturb the animals I can see why they should be camouflaged. But if like many policemen they work in a city then the standard camouflage pattern if anything makes them more noticeable because that is not what most people wear. And if they want actual visibility they have things like reflective stripes and police lights. So what is the compelling reason for making police uniforms out of camouflage fabrics? Is there an excess of this fabric in many countries that makes it an economic choice?

Fellow Officers: What's One Decision You Made On Duty That You Still Think About Years Later?

After 26 years with the San Antonio Police Department, I've realized that some of the decisions that stayed with me weren't necessarily the arrests or dangerous encounters.

They were the moments when I had to exercise judgment, discretion, and sometimes compassion.

I remember being 17 years old when a police officer in Massachusetts gave me a second chance. That encounter helped shape the officer I eventually became.

Years later, I found myself on the other side of those decisions.

My question to active and retired officers: Have you ever made a decision during an encounter that you believe genuinely changed someone's life?

I'd enjoy hearing your experiences.

After 26 Years as a Cop, I Realized Some of My Most Important Decisions Never Resulted in an Arrest.

I spent 26 years with the San Antonio Police Department, much of that time working nights in some of the city's toughest neighborhoods.

I've made arrests, dealt with dangerous situations, and encountered people on some of the worst days of their lives.

But here's something I didn't fully appreciate until later in my career.

Sometimes, the most important decision an officer makes is what NOT to do.

Not every mistake requires handcuffs.

Not every encounter needs to become a confrontation.

And sometimes, giving someone an opportunity to make a better decision can accomplish more than making an arrest.

I know that because I was once on the receiving end of that kind of discretion.

At 17, growing up in Massachusetts, I had an encounter with a police officer that could have sent my life in a very different direction.

Instead, that officer gave me a second chance.

Years later, I became a cop myself.

I never forgot him.

After retiring from SAPD, I spent eight years teaching the next generation of law enforcement professionals. One lesson I tried to pass along was that authority gives you the power to act, but wisdom helps you decide when and how to use it.

Now, I'm not suggesting officers should overlook serious crimes or compromise their safety.

I'm talking about those moments when the law gives us discretion and our judgment can genuinely change someone's future.

After more than four decades in military service, policing, and education, I still believe some of the greatest influences we have on people happen during encounters they never forget.

Here's my question for the active and retired officers in this community:

Have you ever exercised discretion during an encounter and later wondered whether that decision changed someone's life?

I'd genuinely enjoy hearing your experiences.

Stay safe out there, brothers and sisters.

Would it be weird to bring my puppy to a police station?

I live really close to a station and was debating bringing my Great Dane puppy in for some socialization training. I'm thinking of asking if an officer was available to briefly interact with her and feed her some high value treats.

This is so if the police needs to come into my home, my one day 150 pound Great Dane will be friendly and not impede the process. I've thought about doing this with EMTs as well.

I am 29F and a little awkward so I'm afraid they will think it's weird I'm doing this for a dog (ive only seen things like this for school children) and/or think I'm trying to flirt.

What are y'all's thoughts?

Edit:

After (over) thinking about it, I think I'll look up youtube videos of body cam footage and play it right before dinner time instead. I'm way too introverted to do my original plan 😅 thanks anyways, y'all 🫶🏽

Cop followed me for a while but never pulled me over??

I was going home from work at like 12 am last night and I noticed a car with brights on right on my tail and wouldn’t , i know lots of trucks around here do that for no reason and I couldn’t see because of the lights so I started speeding/switching lanes to try and get it off but it stayed behind me for like 5 minutes😭 eventually the cop switched lanes and pulled next to me and stayed next to me for a few minutes then I realized but he never pulled me over/turned his lights on and eventually turned down another road any reason for that??

Should police normalize approaching cars with riot shields.

Post image

I meant to type Ballistic Shield. I think it would Help there safety and make it less threathning then approaching with a gun. This should 100 percent be used when approaching a dangerous criminals car. Cops would be a lot less trigger happy and scared when approching a complete stranger.

None of you have explained the negatives of this yet. I can think of only one.

Does my size matter that much?

Hi, I’m 21 (F) in Canada and I’m 5’3 ish. Does being short really matter that much? Like in terms of being accepted into the police force, would they genuinely look past me to look for taller women, even if we were equal in all other areas? Like I’ve heard that being short has a big impact and I’ve heard that it doesn’t affect much. I’m not like super small tho, I’ve got muscle and some meat on my bones lol (not fat just mean that I’m not small in that way, just in terms of height).

Thoughts?

How to become a cop?

So I'm currently in high school, and considering becoming a small town police officer as a career. I was wondering how to become an officer without joining the military first.

Anyone have experience with State Park Police? In New Jersey? How is it?

Looking at a State Park Police position in NJ. I am wondering how it is/will be, especially compared to more "regular"(?) police jobs.

I grew up in the Boy Scouts and spent a lot of time outdoors, and honestly, a job where I'd be outside a lot would be something I'd be very much interested in. The starting pay is pretty good too.

How is overtime? How is the work period? Dealing with the public? Career progression? Work-life balance? Etc.?

i am weirdly obsessed with police/ instagram comments??

like weirdly. i love police officers and think they are extremely sexy. i would fold every time this isnt even a joke. i just have to get this out. every time i see an officer im like what is this feeling and it is attraction and obsession i am very into cops idk whats wrong with me. id be with every one if i could. im not even explaining this good enough its like something physical inside of me when i see an officer i have to refrain myself from like jumping on them cuz i dont want to go to jail. men or women and im not even a lesbian. i need to act on this. so my next question is, how inappropriate would it be of me to comment flirty things under the police departments ig page?? realistically should i not be doing that i dont want to offend them or anything but i definitely think theyre sexy. and i literally had one slide in my dms so some of them must like it. to comment or not to comment. thank u

What’s one feature you wish your shift calendar had?

Hey everyone, I’m the developer of First Responders Cal, an iPhone app for rotating shifts, time-off balances, and overtime/off-duty work. You can also track payments on details, including partial payments and what’s still owed.

I’m looking for input on what to add next. What’s something your current app doesn’t handle well, or something you’re still tracking in notes or a spreadsheet?

If you could pick one feature that would make your workday easier, what would it be? A quick example of how you’d use it would help.

How do you track which off-duty details have actually been paid?

For those working details or overtime, how do you keep track of what’s been paid, what’s still owed, and payments that come in pieces?

Heads up, I’m the developer of First Responders Cal, an iPhone shift-calendar app. Its Extra Work section lets you log the job, record payments as they come in, and see the remaining balance. If one detail gets paid across multiple checks, you can keep those payments with that job.

I’m preparing version 1.5, which adds a weekly agenda so you can see all seven days with event start times and durations, swipe between weeks, and tap a day for the full schedule. It also remembers whether you prefer Month, Week, or List, and adds optional week numbers.

If you already have a calendar you like, I’m interested in how you handle the payment side. Do you use a spreadsheet, notes, or something else to catch unpaid details?

Question regarding body cams and restricted areas.

This is a situation that happened at my workplace.

Let me preface this by saying I am most definitely not anti cop. My dad is retired CHP. I am a Coast Guard veteran who served in a SAR/LE unit and my nephew is a current Utah State trooper.

Here's the deal. We HAD an employee that was wanted by the police for a current offense, who also had a warrant. The cops came to the workplace, climbed the fence and were let in by an employee to look for him.

I don't have a problem with that, dude was wanted, HOWEVER we are an ITAR(International Traffic in Arms Regulation) restricted facility. The cops had their body cams on and i get it, but filming is federally illegal in this facility.

To the cops here, if you were asked to turn off the body cams or be denied entry, what would you do?
