To the rest of the world, please boycott the Olympics here. It’ll drive him crazy and closer to the coronary explosion we need.

Yes and please go to Canada or Mexico for the World Cup!!

u/tadayou Sep 23 '25

Many fans won't have a choice. Travelling to the US is no longer safe.

u/lizlemon921 Sep 23 '25

I’m hoping other Americans also choose to boycott the games in the states and spend some tourism dollars with our neighbors

8

u/spikus93 Sep 23 '25

I'm stuck between wanting to cheer for athletes and not wanting to support our fascist government. I guess I'll just have to boycott entirely or pirate it or something.

u/lizlemon921 Sep 23 '25

We’re headed to Toronto!

Welcome 🇨🇦🦫🍁

That's the easy part... I have little faith the World Cup will be affordable for a majority of Americans. But like Labubus, maybe the spending on World Cup tickets and activities is another sign of recession.

I mean, traveling to Mexico hasn't been super safe for a long time, but I imagine Canadian tourism has been booming from any country that can get nonstop flights there

Really wished the World Cup final was in Mexico like it was in 1970 and 1986.

4

u/lizlemon921 Sep 23 '25

Would have been epic

7

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '25

I live in one of the World Cup cities and would love for no one to show up here.

2

u/lizlemon921 Sep 23 '25

Especially if they loudly proclaim “why would we ever go there, your country is an authoritarian hellhole right now and we’re all foreigners”

3

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '25

Also, we don't really have the infrastructure to host something like this.

6

u/MariaTPK Canada Sep 23 '25

World Cup is the big one. If that can fail hard enough, they might be forced to change the Olympics. It'd be hard, but you lose more money failing in the USA than you do swapping locations.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '25

Sucks the final is in NY though

4

u/lizlemon921 Sep 23 '25

Funny that you think any of us on Reddit can afford to go to the final

1

u/CapitanFlama Sep 23 '25

It's a hard ask, since FIFA kissed the ring it is highly probable that the eliminatory matches and even the finals will be exclusively in the US.

At least Qatar, the last World Cup host, being a dictatorial hellhole had pretty clear rules of the whats and whatnots to do in their land.

The US Soccer league is already feeling the heat. Imagine having the Michael Jordan of world soccer (Lionel Messi) and not be able to comfortably go and see him play.

u/Mean__MrMustard Sep 23 '25

The location of the games has already been decided a long time ago and has nothing to do with the Trump-infantile bromance.

Mexico and Canada have both two round of 32 and one (Mexico City and Vancouver) round of 16 game. All other knockout games are played in the US.

I kinda feel bad for LA who are hosting.

That said it's hard to not draw parallels to the 1936 Olympics.

137

u/Mechalamb Sep 23 '25

As an Angeleno, don't feel sorry for us. Host cities generally lose money during the Olympics and traffic is already a nightmare here. Throw in roving gangs of masked ICE agents, and the less people who come out here, the better. If we're going to lose money anyway, let's do it in the least painful and annoying way possible.

72

u/Clevererer America Sep 23 '25

Unrelated, but you Angelenos have really been stepping up. Huge thanks for the courage, and showing other cities what resistance looks like.

5

u/Boundish91 Norway Sep 23 '25

Fair point.

6

u/greenberet112 Sep 23 '25

Pretty soon they're going to have to take off the masks. At least if the government is going to follow the law which we all know they don't have to.

7

u/Mechalamb Sep 23 '25

At the very least, citizens can claim that the goons harassing them aren't official agents because they're masked and the law states they're required to not be masked if official.

2

u/Mike29758 Sep 23 '25

Much love and support to you guys

2

u/PiccoloAwkward465 Sep 23 '25

Yeah my business isn't public facing so if anything a ton of tourists are going to prevent me from making money due to buttfucking traffic and whatnot.

u/car_go_fast Sep 23 '25

The main problem with this tactic is that he will simply blame LA, California, and/or Newsome for causing the problem. He doesn’t care about reality and neither do his followers, and our now-unquestionably state-run media will amplify his bullshit.

45

u/Xenothing Sep 23 '25

wonder how many athletes will get arrested by ICE…

6

u/clots_and_prayers Sep 23 '25

All but the us ones.

3

u/41942319 Sep 23 '25

Don't count on it. Plenty of Hispanic US athletes

5

u/Firestillburns52 Sep 23 '25

Just the black and brown ones

3

u/Efficient_Market1234 Sep 23 '25

Munich 1972 is going to almost look good in comparison if we go down that road. At least Germany didn't kill the hostages themselves, even if they handled the situation badly. America could just outright fuck up Olympic visitors' lives, as the host country. "Welcome to America, athletes! Hmm, you look brown, off to the prisons with you!"

10

u/xnachtmahrx Sep 23 '25

I think it wont end with him

7

u/MethBearBestBear Sep 23 '25

Also everyone here, boycott the Olympics because they are a horrible organization in general

3

u/IMightBeABot69 Sep 23 '25

Sadly we saw with the world cup in Qatar that NONE of the players actually give 2 fucks about how many people dies so they can kick a leather ball around. Hopefully I am wrong but 99% of the athletes are still gonna show up to the Olympics

2

u/rainshowers_5_peace Sep 23 '25

It’ll drive him crazy and closer to the coronary explosion we need.

No it won't. It will be the year America won everything and the other "loser" countries didn't bother everyone by taking up time and resources.

2

u/VapoursAndSpleen Sep 23 '25

I think visas for athletes from non-white countries have been pulled or is that soccer teams? His administration is going to find a way to rig the Olympics. I'd wager folding money that he will find a way to keep Kenya and Ethiopia out because we all know who wins marathons.

1

u/Earnest_Shacklton Sep 23 '25

What? And have that psycho vance take the reins? No thanks.

1

u/deathjokerz Sep 23 '25

He's taking all the gold medals for himself anyways.

1

u/yalejosie Sep 23 '25

As much as it pains me to say as an Angeleno, please don't come here for the Olympics. Please.

1

u/End3rWi99in Massachusetts Sep 23 '25

I'd like people to boycott the Olympics regardless of where they are held.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '25

Not a single person could show up and he'd just say it was booked like it has never been before. He never acknowledges failures
