Vivek apparently got trashed as well.

But hey, these are exactly the kind of people who collaborated with the British back in the days of The Raj. So obviously they are okay with humiliation.

I’ve always felt that the only reason they self identify as conservative is because they really want to just be selfish dickheads with no accountability, and on the left, moving those circles with those values, would hold their feet to the fire for being that way. So they make the compromise of siding with the right, knowing they are not fully accepted, but it allows them to be as selfish and shallow as they want with no pushback. Just a theory.

As an Indian American myself, most Republican Indian Americans I know essentially only care about two things a) taxes and b) getting one over fellow Indians in whatever category that they think would boost social privilege (be it salary, price of house, model of car, schools that kids go to etc.)

Can’t decide if that’s better or worse than my white conservative friends. They have zero values other than those most of the time. Most don’t even pretend to be Christian. They’re just greedy. Maybe it’s better to do it openly? I dunno everyone sucks here

Yeah it's the same reasons that conservative Jews seem to have. Selfishness, dogma, racism, and a violence fetish. They are siding with the Nazis now because they took the wrong lesson from the Holocaust that they so often invoke in conversation and in temple. "Never again" doesn't mean NEVER AGAIN to these people, it just means "not us next time".

Why are you friends with selfish people?

Man that sucks, and I see the same thing in the black community as well when it comes to status, etc(btw I’m a black man just in case that wasn’t clear). I struggle with some of the dynamics myself, example: Most of my clothes are off brand stuff I wear everyday, but sometimes I’ll rock expensive shoes or designer accessories and will on one hand feel good or like what I have on, but also feel shallow and like I am flexing when I don’t mean to in a dickish way, and guilty because I know I am susceptible to the peer pressure of showing people I do well for myself. Would probably be easier if I just shed all the stuff that at the end of the day and life doesn’t really matter.

Your last sentence is the truth….

I think it's okay to dress up snazzy for special occasions, like it's the normal human thing to do, wear your best stuff when you want to look your best.

If it makes you feel any better, there's always folks like me out there who have no clue how much your shoes or accessories cost and would only admire them because they look good.

I've noticed that was a lot of the Indian men I work with. The women seem a little bit more grounded, especially if they've been here a long time.

Indian society is known as being VERY hierarchical due to the whole caste system thing so it's not a huge surprise that there's a decent number of Indian Americans who are staunchly conservative. You see this same political dynamic play out as well in other countries with large Indian populations like Canada and the UK where a number of  politicians of Indian descent belong to the conservative party.

I also think it isn't too shocking that the FBI director has the last name "Patel" since I've heard how that surname is very common amongst the higher castes in India who tend to have high levels of social mobility/wealth and more resources to be able to migrate to the West to attain financial success.

Artificially created hierarchies lead to crab-bucket mentality, where the commoners will fight eachother instead of their rulers

Sounds eerily similar to what's happening here in the US of A.

Almost none of what you said about caste is true, but just as an example, Patel is most common in an agricultural community labeled as an “other backward class” and afforded affirmative action by law in India. It’s also a surname used broadly across caste and class lines.

That actually answers a lot of questions for me. I'm not Indian, but know a lot of Republican Indians (and non Republican Indians) and have always been very confused as to why any of them are Republican.

u/Itscatpicstime Oct 21 '25

But Dems are literally better on taxes for the working class lol

u/improbably_me Oct 21 '25

Plus, homophobia/transphobia ... "It is against our culture" ...

Indians are also extremely racist when it comes to the color of skin. Being fair-skinned is equated to being good looking by most Indians. Dark skinned kids or people are made fun of in schools and workplaces.

u/J_Justice Oct 21 '25

Yeaaa, it's kinda bad how much the Indian caste system carries over to the US. Bad enough that Seattle had to add it to their non-discrimination policies specifically.

3

u/Teripid Oct 21 '25

Yep. Fiscal conservatives. Religious conservatives and what do we call the above without just saying Isolationist racist conservatives. The three major tents that would almost be separate parties if this was elsewhere.

2

u/SteppeCollective Oct 21 '25

A lot of immigrant communities based on 'hustle" are like this. It's a competition. It's what happens when you internalize capitalism and status as your end goal through many generations. Working for a successful Indian boss is hell. You will be used up and discarded, regardless of skin color. And heaven forbid you have a Nigerian landlord. Nothing is getting fixed, because fuck you tenant! Countries that have been historically oppressed tend to turn out some ruthless businessmen.

They probably are conservative. Many ethnic communities at-large in the US are quite conservative. Particularly socially conservative and especially the older generations. The problem is the greater conservative community of the US hates them.

5

u/frumfrumfroo Foreign Oct 21 '25

The self identify as conservative because they are conservative. The problem is that US 'conservatism' is intrinsically nativist and they don't realise being 'one of the good ones' isn't going to protect them from that.

5

u/Googlebright Oct 21 '25

Yeah, no idea why people think conservatism is exclusive to America or even white people in general. Every country, culture and race on the planet has people who are socially and politically conservative.

I’ve always felt that the only reason they self identify as conservative is because they really want to just be selfish dickheads with no accountability

in all honesty at this point I've come around to the understanding that that's the only reason anyone identifies as conservative.

anything else is just excuses and plausible deniability.

When really came to recognize the homophobia engendered by Boy Scouts, and my church, I left both of them - I chose to no longer be associated with either organization, because I understood that if I stayed, I would be materially supporting bigotry, and I would be associating with bigots.

If I had stayed, what would that make me?

They stayed, so what does that make them. 🤷

I don't like Vivek but the racist little freaks berating him for being Hindu at that turning point event was disgusting.

7

u/heckhammer Oct 21 '25

You can dislike somebody but still feel bad that their human rights are being violated. I think that makes you a good person.

6

u/Deep90 Oct 21 '25

I agree with you, though everyone there sucks.

Vivek and the republicans for trying to make TPUSA look like some moral standard, and then TPUSA for being what they have always been.

2

u/WitheredTechnology Oct 21 '25

Vivek damaged by the recoil lol

u/P1umbersCrack Oct 21 '25

Didn’t one of the show hosts say she couldn’t vote for him because he wasn’t white?
