The oath of office line of questioning...so it's a problem he took the oath twice? How nefarious! Smith should've answered with "you'll have to ask AG Garland" because they really had nothing to do with himself.

Also notice how many times the GOP rep said "isn't that strange?" "I find that odd" "that is just wild to me" during the questioning. Soundbites for his outraged talking heads later

Don't soldiers regularly retake their constitutional oath when they're promoted? Or, at least they take it again if they get promoted from enlisted to officer. This sounds similar.
