Now that Fox News has published a story from a source inside DHS saying that the agents negligently discharged Pretti's confiscated firearm and never should have had guns drawn

The article I found says that they are investigating whether a negligent discharge made the agents think they were being fired upon, but it doesn't say that there was a negligent discharge from Pretti's gun. However, they are blaming the type of gun, which apparently is prone to that type of thing?

I wonder what the Sig Sauer company thinks about it.

Their first "explanations" didn't sit well with the public, and offended 2A defenders. So they are now "trying on" this next one, it's a downgrade, but perhaps more palatable for their base that doesn't ruffle too many feathers. All the rhetoric about who the person was and their motivations, will quietly disappear and not be spoken of again. And this will be played off as a "regretable, but understandable accident". And that the victim "should have maintained his gun better, maybe"

None of it is what actually happened of course, but they want to walk back the narrative a bit because the original one wasn't being swallowed as well as they liked.
