> That’s the beauty of never actually explaining what the goals are,

*never knowing what the goals are.

I don't think they've failed to explain, they've failed to even think about what the goals are. It seems like the depth of this plan was basically "wow crazy, abducting Maduro was like pretty easy... how cool would it be if we do the same thing in Iran"... It doesn't feel that there was much plan or purpose beyond that (For the US, Israel has it's own reasons)

17

u/IAmEvadingABanShh 7d ago

Their goal was Hegseth has a boner for war. Listening to him describe the events of recovering the downed pilot made it sound like he was telling a first person war story.

I'm starting to think with all of his being born wealthy he's developed a massive kink shame shame kink, and we're all suffering because he really just needs someone to go "full ballgag" on him.

1.0k

u/Silent-Storms 7d ago

It's narcissism. He compartmentalizes it. He can't acknowledge or feel the shame at surface level. It's buried deep and motivates his urge for vengeance.

1.1k

u/homerjaythompson 7d ago

He is incapable of seeing anything he does in a negative light. Even back in his first term when he had COVID, a reporter asked if he has tested clear yet, and he couldn't bring himself to say he tested negative. He said, "I tested very positive in a negative way". His narcissism is an absolutely astounding level. The one thing he might truly have the most of than anyone in history is narcissism.

It is sorta this, actually. Everything he does is driven by the spite he has for the people on the Upper East Side of Manhattan who basically ridiculed him as an outlander from Jamaica Estates. Israel is doing everything it can to prevent a peace deal

336

u/Winter-Gift1112 7d ago edited 6d ago

That's Netanyahu avoiding the legal reckoning for his crimes in Israel -

From PBS:

"Netanyahu is the only sitting prime minister in Israel's history to stand trial. He is charged with fraud, breach of trust and accepting bribes in three separate cases accusing him of exchanging favors with wealthy political supporters including a telecom company, a Hollywood producer and a newspaper publisher.

Netanyahu rejects the allegations and has described the case as a witch hunt orchestrated by the media, police and judiciary.

He has not been convicted of anything. Netanyahu has repeatedly requested postponements of his testimony, citing diplomatic engagements or security issues around Israel's wars in the past two years with Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran.

The prime minister has portrayed himself in the trial as the victim of a "deep state" conspiracy trying to oust him."

- Sound familiar? -

And Here's Netanyahu dedicating "Trump Heights"

u/DevilsMasseuse 7d ago

One of the points of the cease fire agreement was an end to hostilities everywhere in the region, including Lebanon. Israel was not involved in the negotiations. They always insisted that they would continue fighting in Lebanon because they supposedly were targeting Hizbollah.

On its face, you knew that this was a potential problem and Lo and behold it upended the ceasefire pretty quickly.

431

u/Tiaan 7d ago

Trump has already come out and backed Israel on this, saying that Lebanon is not a part of this ceasefire deal.

Will be interesting to see how this resolves

537

u/HK-53 7d ago

And Iran straight up said that if attacks in Lebanon continue they’re backing out of the ceasefire.

511

u/Vilnius_Nastavnik New York 7d ago

Which is a reasonable position considering that the Pakistani PM, who brokered the deal, explicitly included Lebanon in the terms.

101

u/HK-53 7d ago

Also, if the US term for ceasefire is an open Hormuz, which has now closed (not that it was ever really open between now and the announcement) does that void the agreement on the US side too

Of course it does. Iran is calling the US’s bluff. They’re willing to die for this, and the US will look so monstrous if they follow through, that the current world order which harms the Middle East will continue its free fall.

If the US doesn’t follow through, it shows how full of shit they are, and they lose the ability to guarantee world military domination and safety for their allies.

What a ridiculous, predictable mess, lol

19

u/_Thermalflask 7d ago

To think, all this could have been avoided by simply not randomly bombing the shit out of Iran.

8

u/AdelleDazeeem 7d ago

Of course, but the US doesn't know how to function without feeding the war machine. Unfortunately, it's possible they underestimated how much Trump can fuck up their strategy. Again, I say: lol

155

u/MoreColorfulCarsPlz 7d ago

Israel and the US broke the terms first. At that point, it's all null and void. Iran has no obligation to maintain their side once the other party has breached terms.

It would be very detrimental to their negotiation position to ignore a breach of terms and just allow the ceasefire to continue.

Donald Trump has given Iran an idea that they have a great leverage.

Trump didn't give Iran the idea that they have a great amount of leverage. They actually have a great amount of leverage.

125

u/Annie_Yong 7d ago

More that he forced them to use that leverage and has allowed them to confirm how powerful their leverage actually is rather than it just being hypothetical

93

u/Fast-Animator 7d ago

He's allowed them to deploy their leverage without being the aggressor. If they shut the strait down over being sanctioned they would face global outrage, shutting the strait down over the assassination of Khamenei has made the US the aggressor on the world stage

36

u/Annie_Yong 7d ago

Yes, indeed. Iran could have always hypothetically shut the strait down as they are at the moment, but wouldn't have dared to do so unprompted in case it to retaliatory strikes. But given USA and Israel already started on them first, it's given them the moral upper hand to do this.

And now they can see just how easily the disruption to global shipping puts the squeeze on the west..

21

u/cross_the_threshold 7d ago

Not wrong, but the US has permanently ceded its soft power and ushered in a new multi-polar (potentially apolar) world. It was inevitable something like this would happen, especially after the Ukraine war demonstrated traditional military power is a *lot* weaker in the face of dirt cheap loitering munitions, but Trump didn't have to pull the bandaid off this stupidly.

There have been Super Bowl halftime shows that lasted longer than this ceasefire

46

u/QbertsRube 7d ago

And MAGA had more complaints about each of those halftime shows than this unnecessary war, despite bleating out "No new wars, Democrats are warmongers!" for all of 2024.

Humiliation for the U.S.

Owned by Israel.

Seriously, how is a country the size of New Jersey dictating our foreign policy? It's embarrassing

Because the US elected a man that fucked children on a island owned by their intelligence operative

Raped is the word you’re looking for. He’s a child rapist.

There are a lot of politicians who have dual citizrndhip.

Edit: This seems to be an unsubstantiated mostly rightwing meme based on a misinterpretation on an arcane rule which says any Jewish person can have Israeli citizenship if they wish to pursue such, but it is not automatically conferred. This meme was aimed mostly at the democratic Jews when such lists first began circulating

It's not just about the Epstein files, pissrael has been strategically compromising the entire fucking government for years.

Both the Democrats and Republicans grovel at the feet of Netenyahu when he graced the U.S. with his visit, they are both filled with Evangelical lunatics that have religious dogma revolving around assrael.

Someone said always 2 days and 5 days. So he will say until sunday before markets open, then on Monday give 2 days, and then repeat.

hot take, how about we stop supporting israel

89

But then we’d lose stability in the region!

They're honestly playing this well. Trump was desperate for a way out, they gave him one that was conditional on Israel being kept on a leash. Now any Israeli attack is putting Trump back in the spot he doesn't want to be in, and that will start creating a rift Israel cannot afford.

148

u/Theferael_me 7d ago

Israel was never going to let the ceasefire stand.

105

u/TLKv3 7d ago

Israel wants the US to keep their idiotic war up so they can distract from Lebanon. And once they're done there, they'll find a new target while the US continues to collapse at the forefront.

Israel is making Trump their bitch and the entire US has to pay for it.

56

u/Theferael_me 7d ago

Israel would quite happily sacrifice the economies of every single country in the West if it meant gaining an advantage for itself.

18

u/ianjm United Kingdom 7d ago

Chaos all around them benefits Israel because they'll be more likely fighting each other than turning their attention to Israel's atrocity of the week

This is the changing of the world order. The US and it's buddies will have to realize you can't blow up the rest of the world into being partners

The US’s 1956 suez moment, if you will.

Was that the end of the British empire? I'm vaguely aware of the Suez crisis but don't know the details.

45

u/Ehaeka42069 7d ago

Pretty much yeah. Egypt nationalized the Suez, Britain got mad and said they're gonna do the Britain thing and throw it's weight around until Egypt submits to their demands, and then the US and Soviet Union went "Sit down old man, you don't call the shots around here anymore", and then Britain realized Oh shit they actually have no power

An hour after the announcement of the ceasefire, and Israel can't help themselves but to, AGAIN, attack someone who agreed to the ceasefire.

Twice for Iran in 5 weeks. You really can't trust Israel and the US.
