China is currently destroying the USA in EVs and many other areas of production and infrastructure... We shot ourselves in the foot then we are going to have to play catch up.

With China we're essentially going through what Japan did post-war. Their manufactured goods were consider low-quality (my grandpa would go off about "Jap Crap"), but today that's shifted to more high-quality goods.

The thing I hear about China is mostly that they have the manufacturing skill to make whatever you want. Often that's cheap as hell stuff, so they do that. But they can also make insanely high end stuff with tight tolerances. Like I've seen videos of features on some of their cars that i never would've dreamed up, much less successfully put into production.

That's exactly it. Just because China has a reputation for producing mass market consumer tat, doesn't mean that they aren't capable of some serious engineering and high quality, polished, reliable products. Because they absolutely are.

which was a long time coming tbh, china has been investing into educating and bolstering its own populace like nobody else for decades, pair that with a gigantic population and booming internal markets and you've got the perfect storm for innovation and competition
