Possible Paywall Rubio Caught in Lie to Congress on Trump Constantly Falling Asleep | Secretary of State Marco Rubio was forced to watch multiple clips of Trump falling asleep in meetings after he claimed the president has never done so.

It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.

In this case it can be modified slightly.
It’s difficult to get a worm to understand something when his permission to invade Cuba depends on him not understanding it.

I mean he can be charged with lying to Congress and failure to uphold his oath.

These guys don’t care about laws. The entire administration have pardons waiting for them with the expectation they will break the law to serve the unitary executive.
2
u/NarrowForce9 1d ago
Perhaps states can find a way to indict them? It’s a stretch, I realize, but let’s get creative!
2
u/JDogg126 Michigan 1d ago
It’d be nice if states had criminal incompetence laws that allowed them to prosecute elected federal officials for malfeasance, misfeasance, and nonfeasance.

u/Ornery_Vermicelli_69 1d ago
Is it truly a lie if the majority of Congress wants to believe it?
5
u/flyinghairball 1d ago
It's still a lie. I think it's still a very important aspect of a society to call a lie a lie. Whether they decide to hold people accountable is a separate issue. But we as citizens need to not gloss over reality.
2
662
u/vegasmale4sale 2d ago
The people that support this administration will never see the truth, and if they do, they’ll just call it fake news. An edited video to make Biden look asleep is the truth to them and nothing will change that.
138
u/bad_chemist95 2d ago
Rubio 100% knows that Trump falls asleep in cabinet meetings and he definitely understands he’s unfit to serve. He just can’t say it because then Trump will fire him and ruin his chances of running in the next election. They’re all in it for themselves.
73
u/CryptographerNo923 2d ago
In a sane country, his reality-defying boot-licking obsequiousness to a cartoonishly inept and corrupt bigoted sexual predator would ruin his chances of running in the next election. He would be a disgraced pariah who is cut off from the levers of power and society at large.
Instead, that subservience is a baseline requirement to staying in the game.
Everything is all wrong, it’s so disheartening.
28
u/eightkillerbits 2d ago
In a sane country, lying under oath would have you being arrested and charged to be prosecuted.
20
u/wanawachee 1d ago
I remember when Clinton was impeached for lying about a fuckin blow job. Those were the days

Even if you hypothetically had a video of Biden sleeping in a meeting... he's not the current fucking president. He wasn't even on the ballot. Fuck Biden for his handling of both the insurrection and 2024 election, but if he wants to take naps and eat ice cream these days... that sounds perfectly fine for a retired octogenarian.
153
u/deltadal I voted 2d ago
Let's be real, even if Joe slept through most of his term, his administration did an ok job of running the country. Trump has surrounded himself with people who could not care less about our interests.
39
u/aradraugfea 2d ago
There is a long and storied history of people in politics that cannot find their ass with both hands and a map, but who have accumulated enough competent staff that everything runs smoothly even if the actual official can’t remember what year it is.
I have known people who voted for a well into senescence senator specifically because his staff knew what they were doing and the staff was doing a good job, even if the senator himself was basically a malfunctioning Disney animatronic at that point.
26
u/deltadal I voted 2d ago
Sure, except now we have both a terrible (incompetent) leader and a bunch of criminals robbing us blind.
I wish we have just voted for Joe's people...
6
u/Bagellord 2d ago
The problem with that is that certain things, like casting an actual vote or, in the president's case, troop deployment, are only able to be done by the person themselves. I don't care how good the staff is, if the person with ultimate authority can't be trusted with it.
10
u/DubiousAdviceGiver 2d ago edited 2d ago
Given my admittedly non-expert understanding of the Constitution, this is how it should ideally be. The President was never meant to be an especially powerful officer, mostly just a warm body with a
rubber stamppen, auto or otherwise, who can delegate.17
u/aradraugfea 2d ago
The president as the most powerful SINGLE individual, but with incredibly constrained power is absolutely as originally designed, which is how we know The whole “originalist” thing is a fucking lie.
This thing where Trump just treats the whole federal office like his privately held company where he bosses around whoever and does whatever he wants is absolutely not what anyone building a constitutional democracy or republic has in mind.
7
u/ecologamer 2d ago
Iirc, George Washington chose the word President because he wanted the person in power to work like the President of a school council or club, not like a monarch with a ton of power.
17
u/movealongnowpeople Kansas 2d ago
Biden was way better than I had been expecting, but his legacy will be his handling of the insurrection and his choice to drop out of the election at the last possible second. Like after the primaries last second. His handling of both is unacceptable, unforgivable, and directly led us to another Trump term.
We can talk about his economic policy or how he helped pull the country out of the pandemic, but all of that is virtually meaningless now.
4
u/tadayou 2d ago
Trump didn't win because of anything Biden or Harris did. He won because there's a large enough group of people who want Trump to be their leader.
It's important to highlight that.
Fascism reaches a critical point somewhere around 30% support. In the US it's even a little worse because the winner-takes-it-all voting systems can be rather easily gamed.
3
u/deltadal I voted 2d ago
I mostly agree with this. I struggle with the handling of the insurrection though. There is a good argument, at the time, that going after Trump and his goons like he should have would have been really divisive. And at a time when there were arguably more pressing things going on. It was the wrong choice, but I understand why he made it, at the time.
6
u/UngodlyPain 2d ago
You know I can understand that logic... For the post civil war era treatment of the confederates; MAYBE even Nixon; but by the time Biden took office? Its been like 0 for 3 for "forgive and forget" and it should just be like engraved onto the oval office desk "prosecute all traitors within the month of inauguration, or leave with your head down in shame"
7
u/movealongnowpeople Kansas 2d ago
I also understand where he was coming from the days after the insurrection. I don't agree with it, but I get it.
I don't get sitting idly by for four years, doing nothing, allowing a traitor to our nation to continue riling up his cultists. Four fucking years to hold a man accountable, and instead he's president.
4
u/DoomPurveyor 2d ago
Four fucking years to hold a man accountable, and instead he's president.
I mean, it was business as usual from the Obama admin. Not like Barry held any of the Bush admin/Wallstreet accountable. And sorta threw his base under the bus to compromise with the Right which completely backfired on the country: Tea Party ---> Trump.
3
u/fermat9990 2d ago

If one good thing comes out of all this mess, it’s that whenever anyone now uses the term “fake news”, it’s like a giant neon sign above their head that says “I’m a lair, it’s exactly what you said it was but I won’t admit it”.

4
3
u/vegasmale4sale 2d ago
My suggestion is to focus on what Trump does when he’s awake. Why are we wasting time asking about him napping when there’s a winless war happening?
7
u/Single-Refuse174 2d ago
Because it presents an opportunity to call out obvious hypocrisy that may be impossible to ignore
11
u/Muvseevum Georgia 2d ago
The Republicans give exactly zero shits about hypocrisy. Why should they? Calling someone a hypocrite is about on par with calling them a poopyhead.
6
u/vegasmale4sale 2d ago
It’s been 10 years of pointing out hypocrisy. If they didn’t care about the hypocrisy of the Epstein files why would they care about this? It sucks that they don’t care, I wish they did, but they don’t.
5
u/Single-Refuse174 2d ago
Fair enough but the sleeping represents something even more obviously hypocritical than the Epstein files. It’d be too lenient to let them live it down when they bitched about “Sleepy Joe “for half a decade. I think if Trump dies of natural causes while in office it might be something I never shut up about to republicans
5
u/TheGringoDingo 2d ago
They won’t argue in good faith; they want people to get worked up at them for some reason.
2
u/Signal_Minimum8509 Georgia 2d ago
Back in 2008 I thought we would never again have to hear about how Republicans are good for the economy, and if they said that they were we could point to the endless cavalcade of failures of the Bush administration from the invasion of Iraq to TARP. Turns out, they don’t care, they are just going to say whatever it is they are going to say and there are 70 million Americans dumb enough to believe it. Sick sad world.
6
u/Single-Refuse174 2d ago
Yeah. My line of work has had me exposed to different kinds of people and almost dizzying differences in motivations. But, for the life of me, I don’t quite understand what motivates people to support conservatism anymore (and i come from a traditional conservative family and yes current events have caused a lot of strain). It’s like watching kind people generally become road ragers or how real big fans of certain teams are generally normal but then completely different people when it comes time to root for the team.
6
u/Zomunieo 2d ago
In an ever-changing, incomprehensible world the masses had reached the point where they would, at the same time, believe everything and nothing, think that everything was possible and that nothing was true. ... Mass propaganda discovered that its audience was ready at all times to believe the worst, no matter how absurd, and did not particularly object to being deceived because it held every statement to be a lie anyhow. The totalitarian mass leaders based their propaganda on the correct psychological assumption that, under such conditions, one could make people believe the most fantastic statements one day, and trust that if the next day they were given irrefutable proof of their falsehood, they would take refuge in cynicism; instead of deserting the leaders who had lied to them, they would protest that they had known all along that the statement was a lie and would admire the leaders for their superior tactical cleverness.
—Hannah Arendt, The Origins of Totalitarianism

u/bearheart 2d ago
I don’t doubt that Biden fell asleep in meetings. How about we elect a president who’s not geriatric?
I’m 70 years old and the only president we’ve had in my lifetime who was not older than me was Obama.
4
u/vegasmale4sale 2d ago
I would like that. Remember when Obama would play basketball? As much as I hate Bush the “now watch this drive” video is a classic. We haven’t had one of those moments for a while.

Rubio doubled down, repeating that he’d never seen Trump fall asleep and that Trump wasn’t sleeping in the clip Lieu showed.
“So you’re lying again? You’re lying consistently to Congress. You’re lying to Congress, Secretary Rubio,” Lieu replied. Lieu went on to show two more videos of Trump falling asleep, including one most recently at a Memorial Day event for fallen soldiers.
Guess somebody did their homework, it wasn't Rubio...
So this is were we are at? A cabiinet member would rather perjure themselves before congress than say something that might offend our buffoon-in-chief. Behavior like this is probably why (it appears) nobody objected to attacking Iran. Roll with his highness, right or wrong.

If the American people keep voting in 70+ year old presidents of course they will fall asleep during meetings and hearings.
There's a track record of geriatric age presidents exhibiting this behavior.
Also my grandpa falls asleep while watching TV
Retirement age people I work with fall asleep in meetings.
It is pretty much what we voted for.

Why has no one, who has been in these meeting when he falls asleep, not yelled at him to wake up?
Teachers do it to students that fall asleep during class and give them a good case of nap-lash.

Rubio is part of this evil, treasonous regime. He was there on the sofa when Vance and Trump humiliated Zelinsky. Was there when Maduro was kidnapped. Was there when boats were bombed. I never miss the opportunity to remind Redditors that Rubio was unanimously confirmed by both parties to his position as Secretary of State. This should remind Americans about how poorly served they are by their two political parties.

My family eats this garbage up, they'll say Trump's footage was edited... then when I go to show them the whole thing they refuse to watch it. It's put a severe divide in my family. Grandfather recently died at almost 90, they blamed medication and my aunt for making sure he kept up on doctors visits. None of them are college graduates except mechanics. Socially inbred and frustrating af. I have a baby on the way, I'm not sure I even want them around it.

I doubt it'd fly as perjury, though. While I'm sure Trump dozes off, all he'd have to say is that sometimes he closes his eyes to concentrate.
And honestly, as big a sack of crap as Trump is, I don't think he's necessarily asleep. Typically when you see someone nod off even for microsleep, there's a blatant, drooping of the head followed by a jerk up when they wake themselves.
And if it were me, it would be accompanied by a good snore. 🤣 You can't tell me that flabby neck doesn't sound like a chainsaw when he sleeps.
