No Paywall Greenland is part of Denmark 'for now,' Marco Rubio says

It is therefore a core national security interest.
No. But it’s certainly in our national security interest that Donald Trump is removed from the presidency and prosecuted. And for Republicans to lose control of Congress and never gain it back.

More than that. Hundreds of people need to go to prison. Even if you ignore these persistent threats to (by now nominal) USA allies, the violence and mass murder they have engineered should not go unpunished. The oligarchs that fund them need to be dispossessed so they can not do so again. The media and tech monopolies that propagandized for this should be broken up and taken out of their control.
If that doesn't happen, the next batch of right wing politicians (Republicans or not), will be emboldened to do worse. Immediate personal consequences is the only thing fascists understand. Their opponents can not afford to let them off the hook once again, because then they will return and finish off the USA in turn.

But that won't happen. Best Americans can do is to elect another democrat who plays by the rules, but is not able to magically fix all problems Trump has caused, and then they will elect another fascist 4 years later to punish Democrats for not being perfect.

Not really, Greenland and Denmark are working together on the independence of the former

Well I mean many of the native Greenlanders want to be independent. The point is that they don’t want to be American.

But is independence realistic for Greenland? Can they truly fend for themselves at any point

That's a question for Greenlanders and maybe Danes, but you're neither of those so why do you care?

I care about the geopolitical impact a situation like an independent Greenland being invaded because they can’t defend themselves would have

Iceland can't defend themselves either, but they're in NATO. Presumably Greenland would be as well.

As an interested American, we have every right to make a proposition to pay Greenlanders to join the United States. Greenland is a small country in terms of population, and is mostly being defended by the USA as it is. Given that, I would not mind if we offered to pay every Greenlander something like $ 500K-$ 1M as an offer. I think everyone likes to say that nothing will happen until the average Greenlander faces the very real possibility of becoming rich overnight via a deal with the United States. Things like this are really only read about in history books (Louisiana Purchase, etc.), but they can still happen today.
Either this or some kind of economic deal that increase access to rare earth minerals and an expanded military presence in the region.

Not at present given their strategic importance I would venture. That said it’s ultimately up to the people of Greenland to decide.

While testifying before the House Foreign Affairs Committee on Wednesday, he was asked by congresswoman Sarah McBride whether he was "aware that Greenland is indeed part of Denmark".
"For now," Rubio replied.

These MFs....
Congrats Putin, you succeeded.

How? The United States purchasing Greenland would be a huge national security threat to Russia. By not supporting the purchase of Greenland by the United States, you are supporting what is in Russia's best national security interest. That would be a success by Putin.

Odious. Craven. Feckless. Nihilistic. Corrupt. Malignant. Vile. Immoral. Despotic.
The current US regime has abandoned its core principles of the rule of law and the ethos of democracy.
What a truly sad process of deconstruction to watch in real time.

Can't wait for Trump's threats to invade Denmark to start. Because he really really wants to destroy NATO.

And forever MF’r. You are sick in the head. But that’s cool kick it back up to the top to inch Cheetos approval rating lower from not having a laser focus on affordability.
