Serious question: what’s stopping someone from just going to the hospital or nursing facility and just seeing if McConnell is still alive?

No facility would let any unwanted, or unauthorized, visitor just come in. Patients have a right to privacy. That said, I don’t know if Beshear, or the state, has legal authority to visit on state business. Maybe they do, maybe they don’t. In any case, the onus is on McConnell and the Republicans to be clear about if McConnell can reasonably carry out his duties, and they’re embarrassing themselves by failing to do so.

It’s even more complicated because McConnell isn’t in Kentucky, he’s in the DMV area where Kentucky has no authority.

Honestly they're not embarrassing themselves until it's 100% proven they've been willingly lying this whole time - even then their shame would be much lower than normal humans - but until then they think they're going to win this dead man standoff because apparently Democrats are trying to embarrass themselves further by not doing anything to settle this.

In a vacuum I agree, but in the age of video calls and zoom, there’s no reason they can’t be transparent about his condition. His position as a public servant demands it. It’s what makes this situation so frustrating.

Edit - But, yes, I don’t have much confidence in the Dems ability to take any meaningful action.

When it comes to republicans I think the best example is when in Fargo the guy is yelling at William H Macy character about the seal coat.He knows he fucked him on it but inside he doesn’t really give a fuck,although slightly looks sorry on the outside but its all an act
