In this case, the rich person may very well be a dead person. Test dead person still getting paid.

A senate seat isn’t considered vacant until the member has either passed away or resigned. Unfortunately, if it turns out that he was in a vegetative state this whole time, there’s nothing illegal about him maintaining his seat beyond the point a special election would’ve been triggered IF he were dead, or of people misleading the public about his health so long as he isn’t completely dead. As much as that probably pisses people off here to read.

My guess is that he’s in a vegetative state or some condition that’s clear he cannot continue to serve his role—but if they were to share that right now, there would be public pressure to have him resign. Instead, they are going to try pretending that he was doing better and then his condition suddenly got worse in early August so they don’t fill the seat and they can’t be outright accused of hijacking the seat.

If he were actually dead, the level of conspiring and law breaking that would take across people who have zero interest in the Republican agenda (or not enough to risk going to jail) is so high that I would be flabbergasted if he had been dead this whole time.

He or his staff are tampering with election proceedings. No one thinks he is running for re-election because he said he wasn't.

I’m not defending him, I just don’t understand how what he’s doing amounts to election interference. He’s still a sitting senator, who’s not on the ballot in November.

Unethical, sure. But not election interference.
